I'd have to say yes... if it works, then it's worth it.
They're not particularly valuable... a Fender of the same era would easily bring double that... but it comes with legs and a case... and 8-string steels on CL don't pop up every day. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

I have a really good Fender T8 custom and one of these Rickenbackers. I prefer the Rick. The tone is subjective of course but the Rickenbacker is unquestionably a better-made instrument. The horseshoe pickups are hard to beat. If I lived nearby I would have bought that one. I think $500 is a very good deal. |

I would snatch that up in heart beat assuming it was in fairly decent working order. Good deal for a great guitar.

|
|
I purchased one NEW in about 1965........
The pickups were very strong and while I preferred the Bakelite model Ric's.....
I feel this guitar will hold up to any FENDER dbl-neck or any other for that matter. A rugged guitar!
I only recently sold it.......after all of these years. |

Hi,
this model SW-16 has sold on US ebay for over $1500.
What they're asking is a very fair price. It looks all original from looking at the pictures. A nice instrument if you ask me |

Noticed that yesterday myself. Very clean, straight, and complete. Lotsa guitar for the money. Cannot go wrong. Great guitars. I paid that much recently for the single neck 6-string version in blonde and couldn't be happier with it. |

You can get $400 for each magnet assembly. The Rick bass guys are buying rick lap steels for that much for that reason only. |

But don't do that! Every time someone does that, the world loses a good Rickenbacker steel guitar.
I'd buy that guitar for $500, no problem. The "fair condition" is because of the paint. It wasn't a very durable finish. I have a red 6-string Rickenbacker Electro lap steel, same vintage, and it sounds wonderful. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

PLEASE, I'll snipe it myself if anyone's gonna do that. I saved my S-6 from that very fate. And, yes, it's a very thin finish to begin with, and the dark finish is going to show more wear because the wood's light underneath. I think that guitar's in way better than "fair" condition in any event. |

I have agreed to purchase this guitar which will be shipped to me, unseen. It seems like an honest sale but you never know. Has the seller committed to sell it to anyone else on this forum?
Thanks |

Not me, I was trying to convince the wife that it would be a good investment. Her reply was "Didn't you just invest in a new Telecaster". I tried to sway her with a trip to scenic Muskegon MI, but alas it was not to be.
Enjoy it! _________________ "Don't be mad honey, but I bought another one" |

Got it today. Finish is OK, metal parts are excellent. Adjustable legs. Case is excellent. A great sounding guitar! Thanks for the tip.

That's what a wife is for. Someone asked my why I have so many steels, and I replied "It's because I don't have anyone to tell me no." - Jack |
