A few weeks ago, Joe suffered a devastating accident in his workshop that amputated part of his right forefinger and badly injured his thumb. The good news is he's back at work, albeit at a reduced pace. The injury, needless to say, has taken a great cost on Joe's finances. A fund has been set up to help offset his expenses. You can contribute and leave comments here:

As anyone who's ever laid hands on one of his resophonics or hollow-neck Hawaiian King guitars can attest, Joe is one of the world's great luthiers. If you've been lucky enough to have met him, you'll also know what a fine man he is. Please help him out in his time of need. The steel guitar community is much richer for his work.

Hasn't been all that long since it was Bobbe Seymour. I have a greater respect around my tools these days. |

I had the privilege to play with the great Joel Fafard last night (shown and heard with his Yanuziello roundneck resophonic here: www.joelfafard.com). Joel told me more about Joe's injury, which is worse than I'd heard. He apparently lost almost all the right forefinger and half of the thumb. It's encouraging to hear Joe's back at work, but obviously adapting to his new physical state will be a long and costly process. Four more days to contribute to his recovery fund. Please dig deep to help one of the great builders of steel guitars and other stringed instruments.

I heard from Joe last night. Most of the forefinger is gone, but unfortunately the thumb bone is intact, the accident having torn off the nail and much of the flesh below. He was off work for two months and has just started up again, at a reduced pace. Today's the last day to contribute to his recovery fund. No donation too small! The site is fully secure and accepts PayPal.
