Dave - my mouth was drooling just looking at the pictures.......beeeeeeeutifully done Greg!!

Both mine have the white fretboards, which brings alive another question, a buddy of mine was asking a few weeks ago:- Is it a question of which may be better, white or black? - in view of the fact that they are played (most times) in some dark corner of the stage.

I said that I prefer the fretboard white for ease of viewing......just my opinion.

Bob Mainwaring. Z.Bs. and other weird things.

Had a D11 back in the late 70s with the same coloring.....but it was suppose to be that color. Rick Mann down in Houston bought that one from me.....I wonder if he still has that one.....well do ya' Rick?

Scotty's had a ZB for sale a year or so ago that was really beautiful in my opinion. It was a two tone.... red and natural maple with white fretboards and white pickups.

Wish that I had snapped it up.

By the way Dave, the single neck ZB (no padded back neck) that I played in Texas in the 80's had a black fretboard. It had great tone and played really good, no tuning problems at all. Due of course to a wizard repair/set up guy by the name of Marshall Woods.

Marshall, in addition to being a very knowledgable player, really knew how to set a PSG up for optimum performance.

Regards,
HH

All of my ZB's have black fretboards. I have a 65' model that has black METAL fretboards. John Borchard has a 65' just a couple of serial numbers older than mine. The guitars are almost identical except his has white fretboards. I agree that the white ones would be a bit easier to see on a dark stage but, on a well lit stage, I think I would have problems with "string shadows". With the right color, the white fretboards really look nice. I guess it all boils down to personal taste. For me, I like the black ones best.

By the way if anyone is interested. I just came back from Nashville with a historic Sho-Bud that I could not pass up. My ZB D-10 is going to be up for sale. It is in mint condition and is at Jerry Fessenden's having four new adjustable knee levers put on and the guitar is being entirely set-up and regulated. 8+4. $1850.00. Yeah, its got white fret boards. I never even got to play this one.

Ricky, its a Duanne Marrs-Jeff Surratt custom shop LDG. Its built in the original style with rounded front and comet keyhead. Big pedals. Its new from NOS parts. Gold rope inlay. I cannot reveal the historical value at this time. I will be putting this and another original Pro-II's picture up when I get the guitars next month. My Pro-II is being refinished by Duanne and Jeff. Awesome examples of Sho-Buds in mint condition.
Someone is going to wind up with a REALLLLLLY nice ZB D-10.
