This month is a milestone.
Ten years ago there was a steeler who posted a request for the tab for "Amazing Grace" on the Forum. I responded to that request and that set the ball in motion. From that point on until the present I have been offering a free gospel tab every month just for the asking. So far, I have sent 125 different gospel tabs to close to 1,400 steelers around the world.
I did a count today and my list of gospel tabs now totals over 1,000. That was my goal but I guee I'll just keeping doing it as long as I am able or until the good Lord calls me home.
God is good, all the time! |

Congratulations, Erv. You are, in my opinion, one of the true gentlemen. You have a generousity (note the English spelling) of spirit that is to be admired.
You and I have already recognised that US gospel tunes are not necessarily the same as UK hymn tunes, so it would be difficult for me to make a request, other than something familiar through Western films - Shall We Gather at the River, for example.
On a wider note, there seems to be a 'downer' on tab generally from the psg community and I'd like to sing the praises of tab.
It's all very well 'faffing about' on the steel, but as a newcomer to the instrument, tabs are a great way of 'hearing' classic changes in songs. Being able to adapt them, utilise them in different contexts and to learn from them makes tab, for me, a great teacher. I know it doesn't teach technique, but part of the attraction for a newcomer to psg is the sound, and being able to recreate that sound is a joy!
Pleae, Erv, continue to do what you do. I have learned such a lot from your tabs (mainly the secular ones!) but am inspired, in 2012, by your kindness. If there were annual psg 'Oscars', you'd be my nominee! _________________ Ben-Rom #017 'Lorelei', Guild D25, Epiphone 'Joe Pass', Roland 40XL, Hilton VP

Alan,
You're much to kind.
The Holy Spirit really laid this work on me.
So many pedal steel players are "bedroom" players.
They never get outside of their bedroom with their playing, except if they, perhaps, get asked to play in church.
That's the first playing I did as a youth.
The only reason they have for not playing is they don't have anything to play.
And that's the reason for my gospel tabs.
We can't all be Buddy Emmons so the use of tab allows them the opportunity to share the gospel with their playing. Gospel tab is the best way to learn the pedal steel as the Holy Spirit is standing right over your shoulder guiding you along.
PS: I am putting "Shall We Gather At The River" in the mail for you.
Thanks!

A bold venture and a great accomplishment. " The Father seeketh such". Be Blessed for your effort. |

Darryl,
This month you can pick any song from the list and receive it free of charge. I just might continue doing this in the future.
But any tabs in addition to the free one are $1 each plus postage.
Check your e-mail as I sent you the list.
Keep looking up!
