8 years in the Air Force (1955 to 1963). Basic training was at Samson AFB, NY. Along with tours at Hahn AB Germany and Taipei Taiwan, I did two tours as a tech school instructor at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Ms.
I started playing in bands in Biloxi in 1959 with others that were instructors stationed at Keesler. The band was "Al Lee and the Tunedusters". Our first gig (lasted for a year) was at a bar called "The Swamp Room" (later that bar was called "The Peppermint Lounge"). We played Friday and Saturday nights and made $20 ($5 each) for each night.

Inducted into the Army at Ft Dix, NJ in Dec, '65--Joined the 199th inf. brigade at Ft. Benning, GA--Sailed to Vietnam Dec, '66--we built the Long Bein base--spent the rest of my tour at Nha Be', south of Saigon. (I was a cook, so I had enemies on both sides ) Honerably discharged Nov.'67.
While in 'Nam I sang soul and gospel with 3 black guys, one of whome played guitar. We had fun. |

USAF from 1966-70 .. Played music while in Biloxi, MS 66/67 then went to Okinawa and Korea. Finished up at Perrin AFB near Sherman/Denison, TX and played music most every weekend while there from 68-70, much of it at Tanglewood Country Club on Lake Texoma. Wonder if it is still there? _________________ Justice The Judge SD-10, 2007
