What a great time it was in St. Louis. So much good music and so much great steel playing. Mike Johnson played some great stuff that I had to try to learn. I play a six string vintage National Consolette with three legs and no pedals. After watching and listening to Mike I decided that I was going try to learn some of those great licks. Yea Right. I don't have enough fingers.
Anyway, I just had to have one of his new cd's so I walked over to the booth where they were selling them. $15.00 each and there were two that I wanted. Wait a minute now...Right next to the beautiful jewel cased cd's were two cd's that had the same songs but no jewel case and only $5.00. What a deal. I didn't need the jewel cases anyway, so I bought them.
All I could think about the rest of the day was the four hour trip back to Indiana and listening to Mike's great command of the steel guitar. When I finally got to my van and on my way I decided to stop and get a good large cup of McDonalds coffee and two McChickens. Oh, what a trip this was going to be. Coffee, two McChickens and Mike's great steel playing for four hours. No doubt, I would play them over and over again and learn some of those great steel guitar licks. I headed out on Interstate 70, settled back, opened my coffee and started on my first of the two McChickens. I put one of the cd's in my player and was salivating at the mouth looking so forward to that four hour trip that would probably be too short. Oh oh...Wait a minute...What is this? What's the matter here. They forgot to put the steel guitar on this cd. I didn't pay enough attention. I had bought Mike's 'tracks' only cd that had everything but the steel guitar. Go ahead....Laugh. All of my much anticipated trip home listening to Mike play steel blew up right in my face. The bubble burst and I got soaked. Well, one thing for sure. I probably know the rhythm tracks to Mike's cd's better than anyone. Dang....What a bummer. The four hour trip seemed about twice as long without Mike's steel playing. Dave A. I'm from the old school and to be honest, although I am well familiar with kareoke tracks, I never associated those two cd's with so called track cd's. I didn't realize that the steel wasn't there because I was supposed to put it there myself. Well, anyway. I'm still wet from my bubble being bursted. lol
