It is with great sadness that I have to report that Butch was killed in a car accident. For those who know him he was a larger than life character, fantastic fun to be around. He was also massive supporter of the Steel Guitar fraternity. He would attend the Dallas show, you could not miss him.
If there is a Honky Tonk in heaven Butch would be singing there or ordering a drink at the bar.
RIP dear friend.Your thoughts for Terry his wife.
Spence.

Such sad news. Butch was such a gentleman. Every year at the Irish steel show he was one of the people I most looked forward to seeing again. He liked nothing better than to get up on stage and sing. It won't be the same this year. We'll miss you Butch. My sincere sympathy to Terry.

It was a terrible shock when I got the news about my dear friend Butch earlier today. As has been stated many times already, Butch was a real gentleman and a terrific singer - altogether, he was a class act! I first asked him to sing at my Festival sometime in the very early 1990s. He proved so popular that he was in demand from many other steel players - at the British Fest; then, later, at the Irish Fest and even at various U.S. steel shows.

He was a proper Anglophile - he had been based at Greenham Common, near Newbury, in the very early '70s and it was right here where he met and married Terry. For some time now, they had been planning to move back to England. They both have many friends in this country.

I feel privileged to have known and worked with him over the years. Our sincere condolences and love go out to Terry at this dreadfully sad time.

Very saddened to hear the news that Butch has passed on.
We always looked foward to meeting him at the Irish Show and we had many a good laugh with him.

He always had a smile for everyone and simply loved to sing ,as Richard posted earlier I don't think He missed a show in Ireland from the beginning.
He certainly was a true friend to the Irish Steel Guitar Festival.

Oh no, say it isn't so! Like so many others here, I have spent many hours in Butch's (and Terry's) company at the Irish Steel Festival and everything that has already been said about Butch is spot on - There's nothing I can add, I'm just so truly saddened by this.

RIP Butch and my sincere condolances to Terry.

Just spotted this tragic news. Butch was a bit of a character and a real connoisseur of Guinness. He would often attend the Dallas steel show and not go into the main hall once. He just loved the social life with steel aficionados at the bar.

Like me he was a Gerry Hogan fan.

RIP Butch.
