Topic: Pac Seat, milk carton or drum throne, 5 gallon bucket? |

I have a Gibraltar drum throne that is literally a pain in the posterior. Are pack type seats any better? Any thoughts for what you can spend the day sitting in? I have read some of the old post but what about some of these new foams?

I used to use a Gretsch hydraulic drum throne (pretty pricey one at that), and my butt would hurt at the end of a 4 hour gig, even though it was very well padded. I switched to a pak-a-seat and that problem went away.

I found a used Pro Seat that has adjustable legs. I was using a Pearl drum throne with the bicycle type seat. Once I got everything height and ergonomically adjusted, I got the Pro Seat to the correct height, and it is nice. It makes a big difference when leaning into the knee levers.
In my studio, I have a folding piano bench that has memory foam. Very nice also.It was about 50 bucks. |

Dang Joe. You sure know how to spoil my day.
Here is an idea for you. Make a pak-a-seat that looks like a woman sitting down. Her torso could be the back rest, and you would sit on her lap, her legs would be the front legs of the seat. You could have an option for flexible arms that you could wrap around you as you played. OOOhhh Baaabbbyyy!

Nice seat Bo, I screwed up and threw one in the dump the other day, looks just like yours!. Hindsight is 2020. But I was looking for something in perhaps a Burgundy, keep your eye out!

Hay Richard one problem is pluging it in to get the warmth - 98.6 degrees or more - maybe a 100 for a hot lady
but the retail price is way too high for steel players - so I can put that on the list of new up coming possible options - that is how the swivel, adjustable legs, adjustable back rest angle, options and more options -
do we call it a ???????

The only advantage to a pak-a-seat that I can think of is the storage space for strings, volume pedal, etc...the secretary's chair is perfect for playing, adjustable height, and comfortable. But it is one more piece of equipment to hassel with when gigging... |

I've had 6 or 8 different brands of steel seat, essential to me if you need to carry all the crap we do need to carry. The comfort of the cushion/ angle of backrest varies from builder to builder, and while many of the brands are excellent, I have found Joe's Steel Seat.com models to be far and away the most comfortable for lengthy sessions.

Thanks a bunch - these comments are what keep me going.
Just trying to get products out that are useful and will last.
The effects boxes on Legs have been going out of the shop regularly too.

I had a lite and an original, and as I don't work the road any more, I figured I didn't need to carry so much stuff around with me, so I sold the original. But now I kinda miss it.

Well I had Joe build me a seat. Beats the hell out of a five gallon bucket. All kidding aside very comfortable and well built, only problem was the cost! But in five years I will forget that.

Anything (with the possible exception of a flying leap onto a butter churn) is better than a drum throne! Steel seats are convenient and compact, but I've yet to find anything that's as comfortable as a nice dining room chair. |
