I hate to be a downer, but $1600 may be an unrealistic goal for this instrument. I have no interest in it myself, but the ones I see sell usually are around $1100.

Cheers,
Benjamin

I emailed Jody Carver in regard to this Dual Pro Steel Guitar.........I asked him to look a this, I have copied and pasted his comments regarding this guitar.....

Dan, that is a very rare Fender, first off the Roman Numeral fret board in itself was the very first of what has become rare. The Trapezoid pickups known as the direct through string pickup, has to be one of Leo Fender's very first. It has much body and tone and unlike the stringmaster pickups. whereas the Stringmaster pickups can be replaced the Trapaziod pickup cannot be replaced that alone is a plus for whoever buys this these can be re-wound to suit the players choice so far as ohmage and output, but they lack the punch and tone of the Trapezoid as offered here on this Forum..... push button neck selectors on the Stringmaster leave much to be desired, they are troublesome and noisy and cut out unless they are cared for and , even then it's a constant problem with them. I have sold those I had and will only play a Fender Custom with the three way lever switch to change necks...Santo Farnia used the Custom on his Original Sleep Walk recordings.

The Custom with the direct through pickups were the choice of Noel Boggs and many other great steel players

This guitar offered here is a good buy for someone looking for a fine steel and I wish the seller good luck..in fact, I beleive sometime back Buddy Emmons was looking for Triple Neck Custom with Roman Numerals as was John Hanusch from Arizona...

Dan thank you for posting this... I have in my book a chapter titled "Its Not About Time" as Leo Fender wanted the Roman Numerals as his grandfather had a Grandfather clock.....Good Luck to the buyer of this rare guitar, and yes the case is worn, which does not take away from this one of a kind very first Dual Pro Steel guitars. It's a great guitar. Good luck to the seller as well....it's worth it's weight in gold.

Dan and Jody,

Your post was extremely informative and appreciated. I've posted for my father who is not an internet user. He is a life long steel player and this particular steel is in excellent condition.

Again, thank you so much for your time and trouble in doing something you didn't have to do. (you both are awesome!)

This Fender is a 1949 model. $1600 is a very fair price for this rare transition era Dual Eight Professional.
