I have an MSA classic and it has been fine for the month I've had it but all of a sudden the A pedal falls flat constantly? The B strings themselves stay in tune but the change when I press down on the A pedal goes flat and I keep having to readjust it. |

The nylon tuner is probably worn out and getting loose and backing off when you pedal it. Can you turn it very easily? Might need a new one or if it's open on both ends, maybe swap ends with it.
Else, 'til you can get a new one, squash it a little bit with some pliers or wrap a little thread tape on the rod.
If it's loose on the rod, that is. Could be something else of course, but that is a problem sometimes. |

Travis,
It certainly could be what Jerry has pointed out.
It could also be the set screw that is loose that holds the belly rod in the bell crank,,,,or both.

What Jerry said.....and make sure there is some slack in the rod between nylon tuner and puller finger, just a tad like 1/16th or so....wiggle the BELL CRANK and then look at the nylon tuner to finger puller see if there is any slack after the pedal pulls are adjuster right at C#. PEDALS RELEASED OF COURSE
I have the D10 model, Smokin great steels and Tone monsters on a good night! _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

If the tuner is worn... unscrew the tuner off the changer rod. Put one wrap of plumbers teflon tape on the threads of the rod. Screw the tuner back on, problem fixed. Do not put more than one wrap though or you won't be able to get the nylon tuner back on the rod. Nice cheap fix. |

Nice cheap temporary fix.
Michael Yahl, Jim Palenscar, Scotty, Just about any steel guitar shop should have more of them.
Just replace them, they're worn out anyway.
For an MSA, either get the shortest ones, or get the long ones and cut them in half for twice as many _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Right. And Michael Yahl sells a 3/4. Buy 10, cut them in half and you got 20. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I just got 20 3/8 from him, he has a click down on the measurements on the order page... actually i had made a mistake and ordered the wrong ones, but they are nice to have around for my MSA, but i dident need them for that.
Ok i see what your saying, Cut longer ones, a bit tough to cut though, what should one use? _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

Another possible culprit could be the bellcrank itself.
I have seen them slip on the 3/8'th cross rod. _________________ If you play 'em, play 'em good!

Good point, Bobby. And if it's happened a few times, it should probably be evident in the bellcranks pointing towards the changer more than the ones on the other pedals and knees.
1 other question worth asking: has the d tuning affected both the fifth and 10th string? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
