On August 18–19 there will be a long awaited Scandinavian Pedal Steel Guitar seminar in Köping, Sweden, with instructors like Mickey Adams – no introduction needed … and the legendary Swedish session player Janne Lindgren.

Here's some info in English – feel welcome to join us! It will be worth every penny, and then some!

(Köping is located about 85 miles west of Stockholm)

The guy making this non-profit event happen is Sven-Olov Kontio of the Scandinavian Steel Guitar Forum. As he is not a member here yet, and as I am a bit involved, I post this on Sven-Olov's behalf.

If you have trouble reading the jpgs, drop me a message and I'll send you a PDF file. Also available in Swedish, naturally.

Heres a rundown of what I have planned for this event:
Day 1:
Mechanics, and adjustments
Electronic Tuning/vs Ear, Sweetened tuning origins, pitfalls...etc
Reconfiguring Your Guitar
Basic Maintenance Tips
Break:
Major/Minor Scales: In depth look at scales, modes and how they relate
Building the number system knowledge, in ANY key
Building a Chord
Altering a Chord
Progression Formulation
Right hand Excercises
Single Note Patterns
Ill be posting the plan for day 2 soon!

I want all of you that are attending to consider the fact that we all learn at different levels, and speeds. Ive attended seminars where a portion of the class would actually comprehend the syllabus while others felt left behind. I am going to make every attempt to structure this seminar as to maximize your benefit in several areas...not just one..I will be interacting with each of you on personal level as well in order to see that you take away as MUCH of my knowledge as I can possibly relay. I want to thank Sven and Anders for allowing me this wonderful opportunity to make new friends, and do what we all love to do best!!
See ya there!

Last chance to book a unique experience, guys! There's still room for a couple more players, but you need to get in touch with Sven-Olov Kontio by the end of this week. See you in Köping!

So, it's over, and what a delight it all was!

If you look in a dictionary for concise definitions of words like "Professional" and "Generous", they both should read: "See Adams, Mickey". What a guy – a natural teacher and all-around super nice guy with a bag of tricks the size of Texas. We learnt so much more than we could absorb (well, some of us – while others were like sponges) and had great fun in Mickey's company.

Many thanks from all of us to Mickey, Janne and Sven-Olov who made it all happen!

Here are a few pics, to make you all wish you'd been there:

The whole seminar was recorded, including close-ups of Mickey's hands and feet.

The gang, including Mickey & Susan and Janne Lindgren, Sweden's Mr Steel – he must have played on almost as many hits as Paul Franklin over the years,

Mickey, who also happens to be a very good singer and guitarist, discusses a song with Uffe Edefuhr.

Concentration is the name of the game...

Per! thanks so much for getting this thread moving again!!
WOW...LONG LONG day!!...We just got home around 7pm after leaving Koping at 3am the previous morning...As fate would have it...im walking through London Heathrow...and I hear "Mickey"!!!!...And there sits Chris LeDrew all smiles..Such a small world...he's coming back from Europe as well and we bump into each other 5000 miles from home...Great to see you Chris...
Ive been blessed with 22 new friends after an absolutely inspiring weekend of doing what I love to do..and being given an opportunity to TEACH in a lecture type environment. Its been 20 years since ive been in front of a class of aviators in this format...I was a little nervous at first...But slid right back into the groove.
The response from all of you only served to inspire me as we progressed, and Ive come home with tons of notes..
It is I that owe all of you that attended this event,(and I have ALL of your emails, and your pictures!) a major debt of gratitude...For all of you inspire me...We strive for the same goals, and we share ourselves and our knowledge freely...This is the essence of friendship and respect for one another..
Uffe if you see this, the incredible gift you gave me is on my mantle...Its still dry...LOL
Sven, and Anders....I don't know what to say..>thank you isn't enough..Ill share some of my favorite pics from the weekend too>>>!!>.....peace all!...Write me!
Here is a timeline photo group..

Meet with Kjell Ohlsson!

Nice pics. Next time I'll arrive a day early too!

Mickey, if you want a challenge for a youtube tutorial, how's about this tricky one (well, I can't figure out what's going on): The intro to Loretta Lynn's version of "It's another world", recorded some time around 1965, probably Hal Rugg playing steel in a very cool staccato style. Or Billy Walker's "Smoky places", also Hal Rugg in a somewhat related style.

Hi there, fellow pickers! I´m Sven, and I arranged the Sweden Pedal Steel Guitar Seminar 2012.
I would like to share with you some of my reflections from the seminar.
Mr. Mickey Adams... What a man... I had expectations, I really had, but I didn´t expect this! Mickey was, and is, the most professional instructor I´ve ever experienced, all categories. This man is a born natural! He conducted what I have come to call "The Mickey Adams Show" with the utmost precision and passion from the very first second until the very last, without any script (that anyone of us were aware of). Not even once did he slip, he had all of us fully focused and passionately interested all the time, for 12 full hours over two days!!! His slogan for this seminar was "Noone left behind" and he made certain noone was! That, my fellow pickers, that is absolutely amazing!! And he has not been teaching a live PSG seminar ever before! I figure his passion for the instrument as well as passion for sharing his knowledge with others are the key factors to his total success over here. Mickey: We all had the best of times this weekend! We got tons of inspiration and instructions. Luckily for us, I video recorded every minute and will produce a DVD for all participants. With the massive amount of information we got, having access to a DVD is essential, and we all will be using that and we all will improve our playing severely. We already have, as a matter of fact...
So: Thank you Mickey Adams for coming over here! You are the best! Ít´s hard to find a more generous, professional, friendly, warm and helpful person and I´m honored being your friend.

The seminar was a total success! It was my first that I´ve ever arranged, and I have received so much positive response from the participants, so I´m more than determined to arrange another next year.
And Mickey: You are more than welcome here again!

Warmest regards

Sven O. Kontio

Thanks a ton for a record info dense seminar, Mickey - by far the best lessons I've had alongside private lessons from Terry Crisp a couple of decades ago! You tought so much that noone can remember more than a fraction without that video recording that S-O is putting together right now, and I look forward to getting it.
Also thanks for the hint about Dropbox - I'll drop some pics there as soon (or late) as I've understood how to do it.
This was a real wake-up call for me since I haven't sat down at my steel for a year or so because of an injured pedal foot. But now's the time to get going again, and your seminar was a perfect starter.
It's also very inspiring to meet other pickers, so a seminar every one or two years is very helpful.
Many thanks to Mickey, S-O and all participating pickers.

(Just to make b0b happy: Thanks, Anders E! I'm unconcious at data, so I need all instructions that I can get.)
