I've got a non-precious squareneck resonator, planning on toting it along for a week of vacation on a lake... I'm a marginal steel player and a terrible dobro player, so I've not really taken it out much.
Can I just use a regular acoustic guitar gig bag for it? It's just to keep it from getting badly knocked about in the car on the way up.
Dobro cases properly cost a reasonable pile, and most are worth more than the guitar itself Just mainly concerned about acoustic guitar bags fitting the neck or not...
Thanks all. |

Without knowing the size of the guitar and the size of the bag, it's impossible to tell if it will fit, but you should be able to use a classical guitar sized case with most resonator guitars. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

It's a low end Johnson that I bought for a little over $100 when a music store was going out of business. Not sure of the model name, but looks basically like this one: http://www.guitargal.com/sites/default/files/johnsonsquare.jpg. Picked it up a few years back to have something to plink around on when we were in an apartment too small to have my pedal steel set up full time.
I just need some padded soft bag on the reasonably cheap side, as long as it fits decently it'll be okay for my purposes. |

When I got my squareneck, I had an old Roadrunner guitar gig bag that was not being used. It works fine. It isn't a perfect fit (the bag is longer than needed, but it is not a problem. If I were gigging out a lot, I'd go for something else but as it stands for now, the gig bag is fine. _________________ -- Rick

I have a Roadrunner bag that I bought when I bought my Regal... it's very useful for carrying square-necks or regular acoustic guitars... padded and insulated, with back-pack straps and compartments. As Rick mentioned it's longer than the guitar but I don't mind that... I strap it to the rack of the Harley's Tour-Pack with the neck poking backward and away I go! _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Thanks, folks.
Something good for a $2000 reso is one thing, but per the above... if I were gigging out more, I probably wouldn't be carrying around a $150 guitar with me
This is mainly so it'll go in and out of the car for trips/jams/camping out/friendly porch sessions etc.
No paying listener on earth deserves to be subjected to my dobro playing unless they're doing it to pay penance for something really terrible |
