While in Hawai'i in July 2011, I had the privilege of performing in concert at the historic Willows supper club in Mo'ili'ili with some very talented friends for a taping of the OC16 TV show "Pakele Live." With editing and whatever else happens post-production, it finally aired in June 2012 and it just made it to the internet last week where it will remain for a limited time until pushed out by newer episodes.
http://www.oc16.tv/shows/35
The two-hour concert was edited down to two half-hour segments for TV. Click on Episode 904 to hear Jeff Au Hoy on Pua Almeida's fry pan. By Episode 905, Jeff had to run off to another gig, so I trotted out two of Hawai'i's finest young musicians, slack key guitarist Barry Kimokeo and 'ukulele wizard Peter Moon (son of the elder Peter Moon).
I hope there is something worth listening to at the link.

The rhythm guitar is so overpowering that you can hardly hear the steel guitar.
Is that what post production is for? |

Great leo ki'eki'e, especially considering that you were on your honeymoon! Always great to see Jeff do his thing with Pua's steel. What a wonderful version of "Nohelani" with your vocals and Jeff's wizardry on the volume control. All the best to you, Bill. |

I just came to hear the steel guitar. But I'll have a piece of the famous Willows' mile-high coconut pie. |

HA! I'd be lucky to make it to Honolulu these days, Jack, but as always if there's some good steel happening I'm there in spirit. I hope to enjoy some postings and A/V of the do'ins. Hope ya'll have a great time and safe journeys. |

It always an enjoyable experience to hear Hawaiian music especially with Jeff AuHoy on steel guitar and Bill Wynne doing Hawaiian falsetto.

Ron, if you leave now on foot, you can get from Ka`a`awa to Honolulu in time for the convention. I would take the coastal route. It's prettier.
Thanks all for the compliments. To my friend in South Africa, sometimes when you're fortunate enough to be on TV, you don't get a say in the sound. I would have liked a touch of reverb on the vocals, less reverb on the rhythm guitar, and a whole lot more of that incredible upright bass. But it wasn't my call. I was just proud and happy that a humble haole guy from New Jersey was invited to perform on TV in Hawai'i. My dreams have come true, and I can die happy. |

I actually made that trek on foot (rubba slippa, no less) after spending an evening driving around Kalihi with Genoa Keawe in her car and stopping at all her old haunts, then missing my bus home... A yin and yang filled night of memories, one I'd do again in a heartbeat, but not for the convention! |

Great performances and great material. Jeff Au Hoy's close-ups are very interesting. His violin effect is gorgeous. Interesting bar grip. I guess if it works, it works. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

I have terrible technique!!! Do not do as I do. I think I'm starting to get arthritis in my left hand. Keep the index curved, on top of the bar like Byrd said to!
As for the sound... the sound guy wasn't real nice. I don't know how he set the guitars but the tinny tin can sounding steel you hear is what the frypan sounds like BEFORE it gets to my amp. Just awful $20,000.00 solid state tone when I was all prepared with my $125.00 (used) solid state tone!!! I suggested to the guy, shouldn't he take the signal AFTER it goes through my amp? He said, "Look, I don't give a f--- how you wanna make your settings--this is all I need." So that's the way it went.
Main thing, I had fun making music with Bill. It was once in a blue Hawaiian moon. |

Well, I must be doing it wrong, too, since I hold the bar exactly like Jeff does. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Very enjoyable! Nice vocals, steel, guitar... it's all good!
Jeff, I know exactly what you're saying about the ignorant sound man. Some sound men (and recording engineers) insist on taking the signal directly off the guitar, rather than mic'ing the speaker. It's a slap in the face to the player because it completely eliminates the player's amp/speaker sound (and his effects, reverb, etc) from the recording. The engineer can add reverb later, but you never know what he's going to come up with. No problem in this case though... everything sounds fine. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel
