I'm kinda scared but here's my first lap steel post to YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyPGOjEfMPE&feature=player_detailpage

I used to play pedal steel (still do sometimes) but have really been focusing on my Stringmaster recently. It's so much fun.

I'm answering the call-to-arms by Mike Neer: To post more videos of our own playing.

Critique away. (Plenty of flubs here.)

I was about ready to post my first audio clip.

Way Cool!

What are your other tunings ? If you have a good E13th, you might get fuller chords by moving up to it on the Bridge and then back to the inside neck.
Just a suggestion Smile Smile

Hi Solomon, sounded nice to me. I have a 54 T8 like yours only it has the lollypop tuners on it. I have a thread going in Electronics about the Excelsior amp. It would be great if you would post your video on it and tell us how you feel about the amp.
Thanks Dennis

What vol. level did you have your Exc. set at, Sol? You may have put me back in the mood to get one of those.
What is your overall take on this amp?
Nice style of playing, BTW.

Ron,
I didn't have it up very loud. If 12:00 is half way, then I maybe had it around 8:30 or 9:00.

Dennis and Ron,
I posted a response in Dennis Smith's post about the Excelsior in the Electronics section:

Billy, I love this idea but can you explain a bit more? Just put me onto the scent. You don't need to tab it. (I do have an E13 on there. High G#.)

Those are lollypop tuners... the parallel sides in the pan give that away.

Nice job, Nate! Thanks for posting that.

Nate - i loved it! that is a great arrangement. BSB was one of the first tunes i tried to arrange on steel and yours is fantastic.
you NAIL the Boggs sound with that stringmaster.

Thanks all, for the kind words. I'm still curious about Billy T's advise if he's still listening.

Nate - i think Billy is referring to the fact you dont need, nor should confine yourself to playing the entire arrangement on 1 neck...when you have 2-3.... assuming they are not all similar interval stacks, ie C6 / A6 / E6. the bridge of many swing tunes is often a perfect jump point.

i've only witnessed a small handful of what i consider masters of swing steel up close in person, and got to sit next to Eddie Rivers for an Asleep at the Wheel gig and he constantly jumped back and forth on his quad stringmaster - i saw him use all 4 necks numerous times backing up the songs. he rarely stayed on 1 neck thru the entire tune. we chatted later and he said when they fly, he can only take his single neck. so when they bus tour, he brings the quad and lets loose with all 4 barrels.

Jerome,
I'm on board with using all the necks! I just thought there was a specific approach or neck position Billy may have been talkin' about. Smile

It may be a different topic but my question could be rephrased: What can I do on BSB on E13 that I can't do on C6?

BTW, my necks are:
C6/A7 (high 5)
E13 (high 4)
F#m9 (I think?)(Speedy's I'll Never Be Free Tuning)
