Quentin, That was a great article. Nice to see how Randle has been fortunate enough to work with the best in the business.
Kinda makes you proud to be a Canadian eh? _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

I just wanted to add that a friend of mine told me that Randle payed steel on Albert Lee's new DVD, titled 'Tearing it up'. I have mine on order. Some day soon Radnle will hopefully be "tearing it up" on his own DVD or maybe a CD. If he does make a DVD it will have to be in HD so we can see what his pickin hand is doing LOL!
All jokes asiode though, the success couldnt have happened to a more deserving steeler.
Here is the link to the DVD

I replaced him in a road band in 96 just before he went to Nashville...After i went to hear him play with my 'new to be' road act, i told the bandleader that he was waisting his time with me i couldn't touch it...The band leader said; Don't worry, nobody can and we understand that, AND THAT EASED MY PAIN...
I had a week to learn the skit and me and randle hung out, but i did not have time to sit around and learn from him because i was too busy getting ready for material. His friend rod also from Canada was leaving and i had to cover Guitar too, so basically i was to replace 2 smoking players with my guitar and a Steel. Let's just say it was a very un-comfortable feeling, replacing somebody as good as he was even then...Luckily for me they dropped most of the material that Randle was tearing it up on, lots of Western swing and went more mainstream and rock.
Last time i saw and said goodbye to randle was outside of 'Bushwacker's' dance hall in 'Omaha' Nebraska the saturday night before he left for Nashville. Next thing i knew he was with Brian white and of course went on to Brad. Well done Randle. _________________ A.K.A Chappy. |

A great article about Randle Currie. I loved his playing the very first time I heard him but had no idea who he was until he started getting more exposure. I sure wish him continued success. Thanks so much for posting.

Randle joined Brad's band, The Drama Kings in 2000 after Jimmy Heffernan left the band. Randle had just left Bryan White's band, and found out Brad needed a steel player, so Randle joined Brad's band and has been his steel player since. Randle played three different steel guitars on the road-his plum colored Franklin(which he'd also played on tour with Bryan White), his EMCI-it was the steel Randle played back in August of 2001 when the Opry made its' debut on CMT(after Brad's second record Part II and second single off the record, "Wrapped Around" was released, and his paisley colored MSA-Randle played the MSA around the time Brad's fifth record called "5th Gear" was released, and when "American Saturday Night" and "This Is Country Music" came out, Randle was playin' the Franklin again and plays it now on tour with Brad. |
