----------------------------------------------

Here is a fun one I just finished up and thought I'd share, the Fire Dog 001.
If it looks a bit familiar to some, thats because its a sibling / reverse of my Junkyard Dog.

Some specs
24" scale
3/8" string spacing
Body is chambered black limba, also known as Korina with a flame maple top
fretboard is cocobolo rosewood with mother of pearl fret and position markers
pickups are some custom BG-Pups 8 string HotRods with rosewood trim
4 way rotary switching for versatility
matching rosewood knobs
String through rosewood set bridge with bronze saddle
Hipshot locking tuners
hand rubbed Tru Oil finish

.

Holy smokes Tom, what a beauty! If she sounds even half as good as she looks, someone's going to be very happy.

She does have a great voice, big and full, clear and articulate with a sweet high end chime. The 4 way switching gives a good tonal variety to work with and all 4 positions are humbucking.

I'm honored to be even mentioned along with a top craftsman such as Todd and second, step back from the dark side and jump on in ... the water is fine Wink

WOW....she sure is pretty. The fret markers came out really nice. Stellar work as always. What tuning is she in?

I didn't see the HotRods on Bryan's site? Is this a new pup from him?

Thanks all! Very Happy ... I truly do enjoy building them, they a labor of love.

Mike ... I do get rather invested in my builds, but knowing that they are well loved, and with some luck will bring joy for years to come makes it a little easier.

Steve ... its in a C6 tuning, hi to low, E, C, A, G, E, C, A, G

The HotRod 8's are based off of some prototypes Bryan came up with a while back. I really liked the direction he was going so we cooked up an 8 string version. Instead of steel slugs and screws for pole pieces like a "normal" humbucker is made, these use Alnico rod magnets for poles in much the same way a traditional Fender style single coil pickup is made. The coils are wound slightly mismatched which helps preserve a little single coil flavor and chime. The result is a nice full bodied noise free blend, one of the goals with this build.

Alan ... Its hard not to like the Hipshot tuners, great quality and made right here in the USA.

It took me a minute to figure out what I was seeing. I was trying to figure out why you'd glue burlap to the back of such a nice guitar. Laughing

Thanks Ron, Joe, and Mr Boards Smile

Joe ... it was a custom build for a player in Florida, so no. Apart from an occasional prototype or one off, everything is built to order, so its rare for me to have something not spoken for.
That said, you never can tell. I do have a Ric B6 inspired project coming up that should be sweet.

That's just ridiculously gorgeous. The foreseeable problem that I, personally*, would have with that is, you whip it out and you'd better be able to scorch it. With vigor. Mr. Green

Maybe you could mute it back a little?
