I have played a couple of them over the years and I liked them both a great deal.
One came up for sale on eBay in 2003. I was was in the bidding until some collector bit the bullet and clicked on the "Buy It Now" and it sold for around $3000 (presumably to a collector instead of a player) so I was not in the final bidding.
I too have seen the gutar you mentioned on eBay but I doubt that the seller really intends to sell it. I suspect that they are just using to get people to their eBay Store to buy the common cheap stomp-boxes and drum cases which appears to be what they really sell.
These do not seem to come up for sale very often and all of the ones I have seen only have 6 strings. I am told that under 100 of them were built prior to the wood bodied model replacing the metal bodied version. _________________ Regards

Eugene,
I think I might be that collector. I play poorly but I enjoy it. The s/n on mine is 166. I really love the sound.
Your right. I don't think anyone would pay that kind of money even for a totally original one in near mint condition. That one is especially b.s. since the pickup is not original, |
