Bob was one of the greats, and a real character. It was an honor to have known him when I lived in Nashville. One of my proudest moments was when after a gig he asked me for my phone number "in case he needed a sub sometime". Maybe he said that to all the bass players, but I was walking on air. He'll be missed. |

I'm really sorry to hear this. What a great bass player with a list of credits as long as it is diversified. Playing in the studio band known as the "Funk Brothers" that stood "in the shadows" as he himself stood in the shadows of James Jamerson, he threw that "shadow" aside and became one of the best and most versatile bassists ever. He will be missed, but what a legacy of music left behind. Rest in peace Mr. Babbit and may your family be comforted at this time.
