On an episode of Crossroads, Vince Gill & Sting. During the song "When Ever I Call Your Name"....right after Vince does a beautiful solo on his Ol Strat, the PSG Player comes in with a really tasty solo...I loved it. Does anyone know who he is? Or who else he's playing with, I'd really like to hear more of his playing. _________________ Carter D10 8/5, Hilton VP, BJS Bar, Sonic Research Strobe Tuner, Elite' Powered Speakers, Fender Telecaster, Traynor YCV40 Tube Amp |

I couldn't find a video for them doing that song, but here they are doing "Whenever You Come Around". That's Paul Franklin.
EDIT: After watching this a half dozen times, all I can say is HOLY S#!T. It should be a crime to be that good and play with that kind of emotion. It don't get no better than that. I think that Franklin fellow just might have a future in this business. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Yup... that's the one...Thanks Richard, I couldn't make out who it was until you pointed it out. I knew I should have heard that sound before, and the Franklin steel sorta gave it away. Great Performance. _________________ Carter D10 8/5, Hilton VP, BJS Bar, Sonic Research Strobe Tuner, Elite' Powered Speakers, Fender Telecaster, Traynor YCV40 Tube Amp |

Vince Gill has been in the news lately for pointing out how bad the recent country music biz has been treating him, the discarding of "older" stars for the Next Big Thing, etc. But he looks happier than he's ever been, playing in smaller places and playing extremely well. That "Oklahoma Borderline" solo seems to be a continuous work-in-progress, there are some set sections and little variations, but this is the one I could listen to over and over:

Not-stardom suits him well. |

It's really nice to be able to hear Paul be able to play from the heart instead for the paycheck (not saying he doesn't play from the heart in the studio, but it's nothing compared to this and the Time Jumpers, The Players, etc). Just freakin' awesome is all I can say.
The red and yellow Franklin is another dead give away. That has to be his favorite guitar. You almost always see him playing it. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . The Oklahoma Borderline video is great too. Thanks. It's nice to see that Hughey smile back there. Of the 3 "country superstar - guitar superstars", Vince is by far, my favorite. Paisley and Urban are great too, but in all honesty, Paisley gets on my nerves. He comes on my radio and I switch to a sports or spanish (and I don't speak spanish) station. Urban, I can't stand to watch him, but I like listening to him. Vince could be in a coma and still outplay the other two. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Loved watching that (Oklahoma Borderline) video. Really intelligent and tasteful guitar mastery on display there.
And I just watched Whenever You Come Around (with Sting). Paul's solo made me weak at the knees. There is a certain type of perfection accomplished there, a sacred vibe that's created and held for a few short moments in time, an example of what is possible. Thank you, Paul. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

I agree with Jim. I've had Paul's Christmas CD for years and I never tire of listening to it. I've never heard better; thanks Paul. |

May I also mention how much I appreciated the quiet, attentive audience during this performance. Although it's far from the norm these days, no screaming yahoos vying for attention here …. Sweet! |

vince has it all in spades. he displays sensitivity, pitch, tone and incredible talent in a humble package.
sting can disappear and never be missed. maybe he should develop some expensive tract of homes with bono and destroy more of the west coast. |

Chris,
I think Sting is a very talented singer, songwriter & musician. What he and Bono did to the West Coast has nothing to do with this thread. |
