A guitar buddy uses the Boss DR-880 in his studio. He demonstrated it to me and this thing is outstanding. The best drums and bass I've heard from a digital source. Sounds very real and is versatile.
Anyone using the DR-880? |

Doug!!! Thanks for posting this. I have been looking at these for a long time, wondering hows it would be for backup while practicing I hope you get some positive replies. I need a trigger to open my safe LOL. Im getting tired of playing with my imagination    "BILLY WEBB". |

Hey Billy, you didn't have to thank me twice 
In the near future, Ron's going to bring his Boss DR-880 over and we're going to set up a couple tracks to play the Sierra along with. Another cool thing about the DR-880 is it has an input for guitar along with amp and cab sims and guitar FX. I'd probably play through the Nashville 112 and play the backing tracks through powered monitors or the Stereo. The guitar input on the DR-880 would be great for late night practice because it also has headphones input. |

I used the DR-880 for a few years before I went to EZDrummer. The DR-880 had far better sounds than EZDrummer, much tighter bass and overall better compression of the all the sounds yet it still sounded like a drum set. EZDrummer is of course a lot easier to program. I spent a lot of time developing a fairly complete set of country patterns. They are available for free here:

Doug, you have to load the files into the DR-880 using the instructions in the manual, a usb cable and the Boss driver for your PC. I just finished loading them into a DR-880 that someone shipped to me and they worked great. There are over 200 country patterns including lots of shuffles, rim shots, endings (end on beat1, beat 5, beat 7) and intros as well as fills. Lots of complete songs too. These will replace your existing user patterns so you will need to archive those if you want to save them.

I can honestly say that I am an expert with one, and have used them since they first came out, and all the other drum machine that date back as far as they go. I have loaded it's capacity several times and save all the patterns and songs to my MAC. I also use BIAB, because I've had the license for years, and the new REAL Styles sound almost better than a backup band.
