I've only seen Junior at the shows and nodded in passing, but I became a quick fan. I bought his CD Back to Back II a few years ago that he did with fabulous player the late Gary Hogue. Great stuff. Some uptempo and some ballads, etc.
Particularly moving is the achingly beautiful Tenderly. This is the tone, execution and style that made most of us want to play steel to begin with. If you can listen to this and not be moved, then you're tougher than I am.
This is the proficiency that separates extraordinary musicians from the average wanna be's such as myself. |

Junior, I enjoyed you on Tru Country last night. I know it was a re-run but still enjoyable. That MSA sure sounded smooth. That ole boy you had singing was not too bad . _________________ Bill |

Jr. has long been a favorite since I heard the recording he did with Gary Hogue, and he is a genuinely kind gentleman with an open mind. The first time I met Jr. I knew I had made a friend for life.
Great player and great man.
Love and peace,

I couldn't resist jumping in here to add my praises to Junior as well. Junior and I have known each other for well over 30 years and I have to say that as a person and a steel player, they don't come any finer than Junior Knight.
Along with the late Mr. Gary Hogue, Junior has and always will be one of my greatest steel guitar inspirations and influences.
He's a true gentleman, a monster of a master of steel and I'm deeply proud to be able to call him my friend. _________________ 1986 Mullen D-10 with 8 & 7 (Dual Bill Lawrence 705 pickups each neck)

I have had the opportunity to visit with Junior a couple of times. Back in the 1970's he played on television on Saturday afternoon with his fathet-in-law Dewey Groom and the Longhorn Ballroom Band. Junior was my first major television influence. I could not wait for Saturdays to roll around to watch him play. He told me several steel players have come to him and told him they watched the same show. Junior Knight is the high 90% reason I play pedal steel today. I might add Junior has been so kind and courteous when I have talked with him. Top that off with a great player and you see why so many steel players love him. |

Hi, Paul ... thanks for mentioning that Saturday afternoon show ... I remember that show well and I was the same way ... couldn't wait for the show to come on, too. I haven't heard anyone mention the Longhorn in quite awhile; it was the Longhorn Ballroom where I met both Junior Knight and Gary Hogue ... ah, those were some golden days! _________________ 1986 Mullen D-10 with 8 & 7 (Dual Bill Lawrence 705 pickups each neck)

JR and I go back 42 years., so long we can't remember who's the oldest!!!
I've had the pleasure to sit with jr and play, He is his own player, as he says... brings his "own" boots to the job, he has taught me that since being here in Tx, can't fill someone eles's... just wear your own and play what 'you" play...thank You ..))

Junior Knight is truly one of my hero's.
He is a master player and I give him credit for getting to get my hind end in gear and play again. I have been in a funk for a year now and I am slowly pulling out of it. You see Junior is coming to the Branson Super Show the 27.28.29. and I have to play good or Miss Lana will not speak to me again, you see Miss Lane is a big, big fan of Junior's.
Love you guy , see you in a few days, and Thanks!!!!!
