Karen, I'd post my question to Keith Hilton directly on this. Hilton pedals don't have pots but there is other circuitry that might cause it. Hope this helps.

I had the same issue with a first run Hilton pedal, turned out to be a bad solder joint on one of the caps on the little circuit board. Easy fix. B

Karen, as Dickie says contact Keith direct, you won't find anyone more helpful than him.

I had the same problem once. A small cap was sticking up further than it should have, and crackled every time the pedal plate came down and touched it. Simple resolution - I just pushed the cap gently on its side and the crackling disappeared.

I sent the pedal to keith. apparently there was a solder that came apart.
He fixed it and sent it back. it was still under warranty (2 months old). he also extended my warranty to 1 year which was very generous of him. thanks Keith !

Glad you got your pedal fixed. I have also seen this happen due to noisy mains power in a studio. Straight into the amp fixed the issue, as did plugging back in at home. Switch-mode power supplies don't handle noise in the power very well.
