Hey friends, let's try this hypothetical scenario. Let's just say that you're stranded on that proverbial island and you were able to stash away only six steel guitar projects and the cd/record player on which to play them. What would those five projects be? Yes, I know we want to keep them all because they are all great-but this is just for fun.
Mine would:
1. Jimmy Day's Steel and Strings
2. Both of Robby Turners cd's
3. " "
4. Buddy Emmon's Live at the ISGC
5. Lloyd Green's early Little Darlin project(Touch My Heart)
6. John Hughey's Gospel cd |

Couldn't do without Bobbe Seymour's "The Masters" CD.

ha - if i was on an island, it would be Jerry Byrd, Dick McIntire, Jules Ah See, David Kelii, etc.....
now if i was banished to a prison cell, i'd have a completely different outlook.

Actually, I'd rather just not go. Mandatory? Buddy Emmons with Danny Gatton, Dave Easley "Live at the ISGC", David Phillips w/Jack West and Curvature, Bill Stafford "Going Home", Perlowin's "Spanish Steel" & "West Side Story", The Vanduras, that Cohen fellow, the... wait a minute. How many CD's do I have to trade off for this?:
I need somebody to change my strings, wash my coconuts etc.
Can you even play steel guitar in a hammock? |

I second the motion on David Phillips with Jack West and Curvature. (And thanks Dave M for including my CDs on your list.) Others include Mike Daly's terrific new "Rock of Ages" CD. (Warning, it's not a gospel CD. The "rock" in the title stands for ROCK!) Also, all of Joe Goldmark's CDs, both those under his own name and the 2 he did with Jim Campilongo and the 10 gallon cats, Paul Franklin's Christmas CD, Joe Savage's "Perpetual Sideman," Pete Grant's "Greeting From California and Beyond," and Ned Selfe's "Errands in Paradise."
Ned Selfe's CD is all original music he composed himself. It's not country, or rock, or jazz, or classical. In fact it fails to fit into any category at all except beautiful music. I think it is one of the finest steel guitar CDs ever made.
