Changing the Fretboard

I recently bought a Sho-bud LDG and was thinking about replacing the fretboard since the one I have is scuffed-up a good bit. How hard is it to replace a fretboard?

I watched the video on the Carter sight, but they were doing it on an aluminum neck and not a wooden one.

Is this something a can do myself or should I let someone like Bobbe do it for me?

Just yank 'er off.....that's the easy part. Cleaning up and off whatever it was stuck on with is sometimes tough. Measure carefully when you put on the new board, you don't want your 12th fret off of center, which for ShoBud is 12".

Before you remove the fretboard make sure you have the correct replacement. Some guitars were 24" scale and some 24 1/4 and even some were 24 1/2 scale.If for example the 12th fret is 12 1/8 inches from the changer and nut you have a 24 1/2 scale. Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works.

Ed, if the 12th fret is at 12 1/8 inches, wouldn't that be a 24 1/4 inch scale? i assume that you just double the length to get the scale right?

How about applying the new fretboard. What kind of adhesive would I use?

Bob, you're right on the measurements. I think new fretboards would come with adhesive backing. If not, a few strips of double sticky tape should do the trick. They even sell a non-permanent double sticky tape.

Panel adhesive works very well also. I replaced a fret board on my old MSA years ago and I'm sure it's still stuck.
