Relatively few have considered that the mind continually issues thoughts and commands based on knowledge and perception for most everything we think, say, and do. Unfortunately when pertaining to steel guitar, many attempt to play BEFORE the mind has been presented the advantage and opportunity of knowledge and perception which is necessary to issue simultaneous, consistent and valid commands for the hands, feet, and knees to execute.

Those of us with normal dexterity can move our hands, fingers, feet, and knees as fast as most anyone else, so ask yourself, what’s the missing ingredient that keeps you from being the player you know you can be? The answer is……..without an organizational thought process with which to target and trigger accurate commands from the mind to the hands, fingers, feet and knees, a valid and spontaneous physical response becomes next to impossible.

Expecting the hands, feet, and knees, to play without first having a conscious thought, is actually asking the mind to memorize sounds created in specific places without knowing how, when, or where to apply those sounds in other musical circumstances. In such instances the mind has no other option than to not respond because there is no consistent logical mental pathway. After 30 years of teaching I have found, that considering only memorization as a method for learning steel guitar, can be a blueprint for failure.

Attempting to learn steel guitar without understanding an organizational plan with supportive pre-programmed skills, is like someone purchasing a 3000 piece picture puzzle, scattering it on a big table and attempting to put it together WITHOUT FIRST SEEING THE PICTURE ON THE BOX. While it may be possible to eventually put the puzzle together, why would anyone want to spend years trying to put it together while running the risk of giving up, when if they could simply “see the picture” it could eliminate years of frustration, and make putting the puzzle together an enjoyable experience. Those who “see the mental picture of an organized method for steel guitar”, can perceive a proven direction that makes the learning journey FAR more enjoyable, MUCH shorter, and personally rewarding.

The presentation of my Fast Track Method is founded on a proven theory and supported by total logic that is mathematically impossible to be wrong. It will present a tried and proven method explaining how to manage the entire playing process while mentally pre-thinking and downloading the “trigger mechanism” for the physical response.

I will be teaching a Fast Track Camp on Oct. 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and here are but a few of the subjects I will be covering in full detail.

Fret board position targeting…………….
Right hand preloading……………
Bar targeting……………
Mental triggering……………..
Simultaneous manipulation of organizational skills…………..
Triggering nomenclature…………….
How to achieve multi-tasking……………
How to control mental command sequence……………
How to achieve position chord stacking……………..
How to preplan the physical response…………….

All this and more will be fully explained during your stay here in my home with Teresa and I as your hosts. Limited space is available so I respectfully suggest you contact me at your earliest convenience so as to ensure your participation and available accommodations. I'm sure this is unnecessary to say, but that never stopped me... Reece's clear thinking about the multiple processes involved in playing the steel guitar, and his ability to clearly communicate his ideas, makes him an ideal teacher regardless of one's current level, instrument/tuning, or musical style preference. As I said, I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but my respect and undying gratitude for Reece's help, saving me literally years of reinventing the wheel, compels me to post this. I will continue to periodically study with Reece as long as he'll put up with me - I can't recommend him highly enough.

I have attended two of Reece's "Fast Track" camps and believe me I have benefited tremendously. My playing has improved significantly as has my hand and eye coordination. Reece Anderson is a great steel guitar teacher and a wonderful person to be around.

I have also had the great privilege of studying with Reece over the years and, while he certainly needs no endorsement from me, I am compelled to state that he is an extremely insightful and gifted teacher and communicator. When you play in his presence, he sees what you are seeing and he knows where your mental focus is (and isn't!), and how to get you back on track both mentally and physically. To my knowledge, his concept and teaching approach are unique among steel guitarists, and uniquely valuable. Very highly recommended, indeed!

Karen, I plan to be in St. Louis, but have been asked to do some consulting work and do not know what my schedule will be. Hopefully it works out to where I can go.
