Don't know anything about it. Just saw his name on the lineup for tonight's show.

Here's the video on YouTube. I think he did pretty well, but it seemed to me that Paul Shaffer lost the song during his solo. Fortunately everyone else caught it and played along.
Jerry was playing his Beard Jerry Douglas Signature guitar.

Bad mix. Drums were too loud on my TV. Love that Beard!

Brad, I agree, the Shaffer interlude was unfortunate. Honestly, I don't know why Paul was even playing on this song. Shocked

It's because he has to play on every song, he can't help himself!

You're right, Mark. Paul has never embraced the concept of laying low, especially on someone else's song.

Anyone know what kind of capo he's using?

He was using the newish Beard "Wave" capo. I purchased one from Paul Beard at the 2010 Resosummit in Nashville, a very well designed and beautifully machined piece of equipment. A major improvement over the old Beard brass capo.

Perfect. I'm in the market for a capo and this looks very nice. I tried the Schubb years ago and its pretty much worthless.

If everything lines up correctly on string height and depth of the neck, the Shubb can be a great capo - but unfortunately that isn't the case with a lot of guitars. In theory it makes more sense than a "floating" capo sitting on top of the strings, because it works more or less like a standard guitar capo in clamping around the neck.

Forumite and excellent player Greg Booth has success with the Shubb on his Scheerhorn. I have one, but it doesn't quite jive with my Clinesmith, I'm always having to fiddle with it too much in trying to get it dialed in.

I don't use a capo that often but when I do I've been pretty happy with the new Beard.

Several years ago out here we had a workshop with Rob Ickes and we did sort of an informal capo "shootout" at the end involving "floating" capos. At the time it was pretty close between the Bradley and the Scheerhorn capo as far as minimizing "tone death." All of the floating capos do kill some of the tone from what I've heard, but some less than others.

When I was at Resosummit 2010, another guy in Paul Beard's suite purchased one of these new Wave capos, and he brought along his Bradley, which a lot of players like very much. We did another quick "shootout" on a couple different Beard guitars, and our impressions were that the Bradley and Beard were neck-in-neck in minimizing tone death.

These things require a certain amount of mass to be any good, and Paul, in designing his new capo, made a dramatic improvement over the old brass job.

And of course, if it's good enough for Jerry, then it's sure as heck good enough for me.
