Today I went shopping for 2 Lap Steel Guitar cases at CABELAS Outfitters Store near Marysville, Wa.
The first one is a durable plastic shotgun Take Down Case made by PLANO. It measures 38" X 12.5" X 4.5". It has foam rubber, upper & lower. The foam rubber is too thick & needs to be cut out to the shape of a guitar. ($89.99)
The second case is a soft zipper case for a RUGER 10/22 Rifle. ($24.99) It measures 38" X 10". This soft case has RUGER 10/22 printed on the exterior of the case & would cause some alarm at the airport. Ha Ha Ha |

Carroll Benoit made me an 8 string lap steel. It was too nice for a gig bag, so I went to Academy and got a take down shotgun case for it. I picked up some crushed velvet from a fabric store, an extra piece of foam (filler for the top), used some spray on adhesive and made a really good looking professional case for it. Basically, I cut the foam out in the shape of the guitar, pulled it out and lined it with the velvet, and then glued everything back in. I will take some pictures today and post later. It took about two hours to get it all done - not counting dry time. |
