Hopelessly Devoted to You, from Grease soundtrack, recorded by ONJ.

The signature phrase appears to be played on steel, to my ear. I have obviously heard this record thousands of times, but back then I wasn't obsessed with steel. All I could find on the web for instrumental credits were guitars.
Maybe a forumite? _________________ MCI D-10 (Curly Chalker's last guitar) Curly's C6th on front neck; Johnny Cox’s E13th on back with E9th pedals.

Sounds like PSG,but it might also be multi-tracked 6 string-or someone who likes Amos Garrett and has hydraulic-assisted fingers .The volume swells sound to me a little more like turning a knob than stepping on a volume pedal and the harmonized lines sound(again IMO)a little more like finger-bends than pedals. Not 100% sure either way,but thanks to Jonathan for bringing up a pretty, nicely done tune.Hadn't heard it in awhile. |

The Australian producer and musician John Farrer was known as a part time slide player , may be it was him.
in any case its sounds like double tracked slide guitar to me . |

Yes, John Farrar was (and probably still is) really good at the slide guitar. Back then he used 2 palm pedals and a slide on a Les Paul type guitar. He could do a perfect imitation of a lot of what pedal steel players do, plus a lot of creative stuff of his own. |

You guys are brilliant! I never heard of no palm pedal tho I'd. heard of the B Bender. Somebody should probably add your knowledge to wikipedia, as the info about what guitars Farrar was using leaves off pre-1975 and doesnt include the palm pedal info.
Anyhow I felt like an idiot after I posted- "of course it's a steel.". Especially when I fished sround a bit more on You Tube. For example, I found these, some live and some with maybe a track in background. The one with Laura and Ashley (I've no clue what TV show it is- I'm totally ignorant of network TV) particularly sounds like PSG.
My daughter's school drama troupe is doing Grease next year. The music director has taste- he brings in a real pit orchestra of ringers. If I can prove it's steel, hopefully I can sell him on bringing one of you guys in for the gig. Don't mark your calendar yet, but I WILL NOT ACCEPT the gig myself. Talk about pressure!
Anyhow, send in your votes (just like on NBC) as to which, if any, of THESE is steel. And again, if any is, who's the steeler?
