Topic: Info. on Webb Amps compared to others??? |

| Hi guys...I`ve been useing a Transtube fex along with Peaveys Amps for a long time now...but I`m getting to old to carry all the extra crap to get the sound I want. I hear a lot about the "Webb" amps and the beautiful sound they have. I know they are no longer made and to get one, you just have to wait until someone decides to part with it. (Questions)...Does going through a Webb give you the stereo sound like useing two amps & the transtubefex ? Is the weight of one Webb better than all I have to carry. Does a Webb have enough wattage to carry the sound out as far as the Nashville 1000 plus the PX 300. What are the chances of getting a Webb in perfect condition knowing that they are not made or have`nt been in some time. I guess I should of took up a harmonica (Less things to carry around). Years ago I could just pick up both amps and carry them anywhere. Now I need a cart to do one at a time. Getting old sucks....Jim |

| If you're concerned about weight, Webb is not the way to go. Especially if it has a JBL speaker. |

Jim - I have a Webb amp and can confirm that it does indeed have a 'beautiful' sound. However a single Webb amp will not give a stereo sound. You will always need two independent amps / speaker setups. Weight-wise, they are not light but neither are they excessively heavy either. I put a Neo magnet on the back of the speaker in my Webb and it dropped the weight.
Output wise, it is rated at 225 watts, which should cover most medium to large gigs. It compares volume wise to any Peavey combo I have played through.
I love the Webb amp, and although they hold their value well they are worth every cent in my view.

A Webb combo amp is about the same dimension and weight as the Peavey steel amps. [I think the NV1000 cabinet is a little wider] It won't gain you any relief from the tote factor.
They do have a nice, but different sound from the Peaveys but I don't think it will be the solution you're seeking. JMO.
For the lightweight stereo sound, you might consider looking for a Peavey DPC series amp like the 750 or 1000. That and your TTfex take up only 2 spaces in a rack. True, you still need a pair of lightweight cabinets. You can load them with BW neo 1501 SB speakers. You'll still have the same number pieces, but they will be easier on your back.
Another option might be the GD Walker Stereo Steel rack mount combo amp, your TTfex and a lightweight pair of cabinets. Good Luck. |

| I do have a Peavey 112 that I use with my trans. tubefex on small gigs that is inside a smaller room for instance. Do you think that two 112s with the tubefex ( giveing it the stereo )would give enough push for an outside gig where you need it to reach out more? |
