Just returned from a hugely enjoyable trip....lots of music, meeting steel guitar acquaintances Alan Akaka, Wayne Shishido, Eddie Palama, Isaac Akuna...and other old friends..
the Na Hoku Awards...witnessed the Steel Guitar Legacy Award being presented by Isaac Akuna to Dorian Moe, daughter of Tau Moe. Kuana Torres Kahele carried away an unprecedented six awards, Alan Akaka played steel on his winning album “Kuanaloa” .
Witnessed the Lantern Ceremony, Bros Kazimero and Raiatea Helm singing to an audience of 40,000 at Ala Moana Park. Some picture memories below:

Tito Berinobis, Melveen, and former actor Don Stroud
Don may hold the record for number of times killed on screen, dude was always getting shot. Plays some fine percussion as a survivor.

KANOE MILLER ! She has remained perpetually young, beautiful and gracious, a superb dancer for over 30 years at the Halekulani. She has danced to the music of Benny Kalama, Harold Hakuole, Sonny Kamahele, Barney Isaacs, Jerry Byrd, Casey and Hiram Olsen, and far too many other great musicians to list here. An autobiography of her life, should she ever write it, would be absolutely fascinating. |
