Well the meeting yesterday was bigger and better than ever,,,,can not give enough THANKS to Joe Rouse and Roger Edgington,,for their efforts in making this thing a success. Actually there are 4-5 people who get there early to set up and stay late to clean up,,,,since I don't know everyone's name,,I'll let Joe or Roger commend them for their efforts. We had a packed house yesterday,,,a special thanks to Roger for his teaching session,,,had 8-10 steel players,,all did great,,,and 3,,,that's 3 fiddle players!!,,,two hot lead guitar players,,,an afternoon of GREAT music. I see us out growing this facility in the future. Not sure who the fiddle player was that came in about half way through,,but man he knocked our socks off!!!! Vocals AND fiddle. Huge thanks to everyone,,,,and anyone who missed it missed a GREAT show!!!!

I especially enjoyed Dave Goodman playing a complete song on one fret. I tried to borrow that fret from him but he wouldn't let it go. |

Sonny, the fiddler in question is Tom Brown.
But the more important question remains unanswered:
When are you bringing your guitar? You've been spectating long enough. _________________ U.S.A.F. 1978-1982

Thank you for your comments about our jam session. We appreciate your help and being active in the jams. Brian Folks, Kenneth Piper, and I started this in April of 2011 and it has really grown. Keeps getting bigger and better.Roger Edgington taught a great class and of course a monster player. Mike Ester was great. Dave Goodman and Ken Metcalf were present and picking great...and Dave sang Shake,Rattle, and Roll and had the crowd rocking.Dean Schilling was in attendance and played his trumpet and his steel guitar. Thank you Dean. Robert Brown from Brownsville was with us and Wade Austin.Mark Mosely and Reggie Amos with their non pedal guitars. Both were showing off rather well. A total of 9 steel guitar players attended.
Our band was led by Kenneth Piper and he did an outstanding job. Ken plays fiddle, bass, guitar and sings. Others in our band were Brian Folks drums, Nancy Kotzur fiddle, Jerry Boatwright bass, Mike Quillian upright bass, and harmonica, Jim Blakey lead guitar. I hope I got everyones name right, If not please forgive me and I'll put you in twice next month. Another "Thank You" to the the Converse American Legion for the great pulled pork sandwiches and "brat dogs" and facilities. Another "Thank You" for all that attended...jr |

Man you should have see me rip it up....
The pulled pork sandwich that is HA!
It was very cool and a packed house for sure.
Triple harmonized fiddles playing Bob Wills material.
I got there an hour early and there was barely room to set up my steel. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

When I rotated out on the second set and listened, I was really impressed at what a great sound the band had on “Miles and Miles of Texas.” That was Kenny’s best vocal, IMO, and both he and Nancy played flawlessly on fiddle. It was a highpoint. _________________ Curbside Jimmy's New Act
