With the latest post about some strings and my own need for them having recently arisen, I have a general poll about which strings people prefer? I used SITs, but they always broke. I switched to Jagwire, but they aren't manufacturing them right now.. So, I am in the market... If you would like to specify why, great... If not... Great!

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I believe Jagwire is still up and running. They are just having to catch up with the orders placed when they were shut down. There website says they are running but with some delays. My second choice would be Live Steel Strings, although until Jagwire catches up and they are available from the forum again, I will be using Live Steel Strings. I need to feel confident I can get Jagwires when I need them before I switch back.

Glaring omissions to your poll. SIT, Frenchy's Steel Mill strings, George L's to name a few. Unfair to lump all those into "Other" category. I expect one or the other of those would beat out some of those listed as preferred by some players.

I've used George L's and S.I.T's almost exclusively for 30+ yrs. with very good results.

Curt Mangan makes some great strings, always puts together any odd sets I can think of with no hassles or up charges. He's a stand up guy who cares about his product and his customers..

I also like the Mangan strings, other than the breakage I was having with the .038. I just ordered an extra one with each set.
I suspect they probably eventually got it sorted out.

Lane, I was breaking .038's too, GHS, D'Addarrio, Ernie Ball. I lower to A and raise to D, that's asking a lot of that string. I went to a .036 and have have no more problems.

It was an oversight to be sure... I meant to include SITs, but Frenchy's is new to me. George Ls, Cobra Coils and Mangans are little seen by the likes of me...

No offenses intended...

None taken, no biggie, but Geo. L's is probably one of the biggest suppliers of pedal steel guitar strings. Still, it's hard to include everything in these polls. Hope the results are helpful to you. Smile

I voted "other" because I get my strings from Tom Bradshaw & as far as I know they don't carry a "Brand"(Tom would know that info)anyway I have excellent service from Tom's strings,I haven't had one to break since I filed a burr off my 1st.string tuning peg.Which is a cause of breakage on many guitars,it's a good idea to check them & remove the burrs if they exist.

S.I.T. strings always break !! damn I better stop using them then. Rolling Eyes
I have always bought strings in bulk and never found bad brands... a few bad batches maybe. You usually can tell by looking at them if they look old.
When I have a problem with a PSG string it usually has something to do with how I installed it and a quick replacement always seems to fix it.
New fresh strings are good and old strings are more of a problem to tune.
Lop sided poll hating SITs.. Whatever.

I'm with Ken. I've used lots of S.I.T. without incident.
OK, I'll break some 3rds or 5ths, but that happens when I try to make strings last longer than I should.

Live Steel Strings for me. I liked my Jagwires for sure and they are a good string. I just prefer the tone and touch of the Live Steel strings.

I have started using Live Steel Strings and found them to be excellent. I have a D12 pedal steel and have always had to purchase a 10 string set and order the gauges seperately for the other two strings. Now not only do I get great tonal qualities but I can order custom 12 string sets in one order. Love it.

I was using Cobra Coils, then switched to Jagwires and really liked them, but switched back to Cobra Coils when they became hard to get. Been using the Live Steel Strings for 3 weeks now, (6 shows) and I'm really happy with them. I could really tell a difference in the tone and clarity. So far they're still sounding good and staying in tune. I usually change about that often, just to stay proactive, but I may give these a couple more shows.

I'm not real picky about strings, so I tend to use just about anything I can get. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to restring my Fender 400, and for giggles, I used an old set I found in the back one of my amps. (I knew they were pretty old because they were Sho~Bud strings!) Not expecting much, I put them on and scraped off a couple of rust pits that were on the plain strings. Well, to say the least, I was amazed at how good they sounded! So good, in fact, that I've decided to use that guitar at a gig I'm playing this coming Saturday down in Virginia. Very Happy
