After playing 6 string guitar for a bunch of years and recently lurking around these forums while my Stage One was being built, I'd like to say hello. Thanks to Doug, first of all. I knew from everyones opinions that you make a quality instrument, but this steel makes me smile every time I play. Now only if I can get better!

I have been taking in as much from the net as I can, (Mickey and Joe) and reading books and doing my theory like scales and chord harmonies for what it seems like I'm doing all over again? But, I am finding night by night, I am more comfortable, and just having some plain ol' fun. Butch, your bars are perfect. I'm getting another. Bobby, thanks for having me to the forums. Everyone else, I've read your posts, it all helps! Hope it's ok if I use first names here, just wanting to say some thanks.

I think I just made a deal for a Nash 112 to be shipped on the bus late this week so I am having a few drinks and celebrating tonight. I might have celebrated anyways. I am a hired man grain farming, and we are done seeding before the rain has decided to target this part of the world. Let 'er rip! I need to practice!

Jason I am awaiting a Stage One right now. Practicing with an 8 string Morrell lap steel. I have played guitar bass and mandolin for years, with a little dobro and clawhammer banjo mixed in. I find that I can be more expressive with the slide than by fretting and using a pick on guitar and mandolin. The right hand techniques and finger picks are a challenge in progress. I have to use a lighter touch than I am used to on guitar.

Steve, depending on string spacing, you can use your ring finger for an A pedal: drop your third to a ninth (tone, not necessarily string number), and choke it with yer finger.

I'm about an hour south of Moose Jaw. Going to Craven? I can't wait to see a bunch of the bands playing, but mostly I am goin to see Randle Currie play. Missing a family reunion for this one, so I'll be in the doghouse, but it will be worth it! hah.

and Steve, I know what you mean about the picks, I was a mostly fingerstyle guitar player with no picks, so I practiced lap and 6 string guitar with the finger picks on. I just had to get em bent right so they are comfy, and after a few weeks I would feel weird not using them.

I have been wearing the picks as much as reasonably possible, scratching the cat and typing with them. I got the double wrap ProPik and the ProPik steel thumb. Working on a lighter touch on the strings. This is a challenge. I have my lap string tuned to C6 so at least I am learning something useful while I wait on the PSG. Already got asked to do some gigs with it.
