I'm refurbishing a Sho-Bud Professional for a friend. On the lowest (and highest gauge) plain string on both necks, the roller nut tends to buzz a bit and I'm wondering, besides moving to a heavier gauge string which I've done, what other fixes have other forum members implemented for this common Sho-Bud problem. They all seem to do this, to a lesser or greater extent.

| Sounds like you have some slack between the roller and the spacer. If it's not too bad, a drop of oil on each side of the roller may be all that's needed. If that doesn't help, try prying the spacer part of the aluminum towards the roller to take up some of the slack. If that doesn't work, try using a flat blade screwdriver or a punch and tap the aluminum enough to deform it to take up some of the space. |

Create an angle from roller to tuning peg.
Contrary to popular belief; this does not inhibit the roller.
So more wraps up the peg so there is an angle there and you will fix that prob. But a drop of 3 and 1 like Jim said will work first if its not a huge prob yet.

Physically, It looks like the slot that accomodates the roller has widened on the 'middle headstock' strings (strings 4,5 and 6); That there is a larger gap between the roller and the sides of the mounting on these particular strings.
But one very clever steel guy I know suggested that the buzz could be due to the enlarging of the middle hole of the roller that the roller shaft goes thru.
Any opinions about this? Does anyone have any middle string rollers (narrow Sho-bud) that they can part with (they are hard to find).

| In that case, I think deforming the aluminum as I mentioned earlier will fix that problem. Just tap it a little at a time. I can't picture the holes wearing out, there's just not that much movement there. |
