Well, here's my latest project that I just finished up. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out and I hope you all feel likewise! The cabinet was stripped and refinished by my friend, SG Forumite Bob Littleton in Camas, Washington. We tried to stay with the original teal color (without the black shading) that had really faded. Some of you might remember a couple of previous guitars I've posted that he did the lacquer work on. Here is a link to his web site.

I completely restored this Original (not a ressiue) 1974 Emmons guitar S/N 1838D from top to bottom, it's the real deal and correct as it can be, right down to the proper slotted wood screws holding the brackets to the cabinet. The only change we made was the elimination of the black corner shading on the lacquer finish. The cabinet was re flocked, aluminum professionally polished, necks jeweled, etc. and the fret boards are new Emmons Factory replacements. The fatback guitars from this era are some of the best sounding ones and this is no exception! It's a real "tone monster" and it plays like a dream.
Here is a photo I took indoors to try to show a good representation of the shade of teal it has. To my eye (in person) it actually looks a little more green than blue.
Here are some photos I took in the direct sun to try to show off the highly figured cabinet. In these, it looks more blue than green 
At the moment, it has a very standard Emmons set up; 8x4 with E's on the left but I'll be happy to switch it to Day style at no extra charge. The original Emmons single coil pickups are wound to about 15K ohms but if you want something different, I can swap them out.

Tony,
I am planning on bringing it to the jam. That's another guitar you're talking about. It's red if you remember and I plan to keep it that way, if at all possible. In fact, I may choose not to completely refinish the cabinet and perhaps just try to touch it up. It's not nearly in the rough condition that this teal one was in. I had no choice but to refinish it.

Tony, yes, I'm pretty sure Bob uses nitrocellulose lacquer products from Stewart-MacDonald.
Thanks Mark, I'm glad you're enjoying the rosewood S-10 Emmons PP I sold you a few months ago. I'll let you know if I come across a lacquer S-10 PP.
Thanks Mike, I enjoyed finally meeting you in Dallas last March. I'm glad you're still enjoying the very first Emmons D-10 PP reissue #001DR Ron Lashley Jr. built in 2004. I think I sold it to you around 2006 or 2007, correct? Here is a photo of what it looked like when I sold it to you. It's also a fat back with the same inlay as my teal one! The cabinet must have been from the same era.

I recently bought a '66 push pull from Lynn, and I urge anyone who is interested in this guitar to pull the trigger. Lynn is absolutely top notch in every aspect. His quality of work and knowledge of these instruments are exceptional, and this guitar is a perfect example of that. I hope this beautiful steel sells soon, so I can stop staring at pictures of it and resume practicing.

Great looking guitar. You should try using a urethane topcoat vs. the nitro. It is way more durable and has way more longevity. Not to mention it will improve the tone of the instrument. I do custom paint for a living. And I've painted many guitars and drums sets for customers that have told me that urethane has made a significant difference. I know there are purist out there will be pro nitro since that is what many of the old factory finishes were. But many companies have switched over to a urethane topcoat. Lastly, your steel really looks superb. I'm not knocking the finish or craftsmanship of it at all. Just trying to share some of my personal paint experiences. Good luck selling your steel it is a work of art!!!! |

Somone just asked me about the condition of the case, so here are a few photos of it. It's not the one the guitar came with, as that one was in bad condition. I would not sell a guitar like this with such a case! I purchased this used Thomas case from the folks at Emmons Guitar when I was there for a week, working at the factory a couple of years ago. Please note the new D2F leg bag that is also included with the guitar.
I actually chose to use this one because of the blue lining, since it kind of goes with this guitar!

I am lucky enough to live about 3 miles from Lynn, I can almost hear him when he plugs these babies in. The PP's sound must carry much farther than even I thought as there are a boat load of them here in the NW, 3 more just last month.
I get a chance to see and play these great guitars when Lynn finishes them. They look even better in person, and oh how good they sound.

I can't believe this guitar is still for sale.It's worth every dollar of the asking price.....Lynn is an honest man and does high quality work.
Lynn....we'll meet again in Dallas next year as my wife and I booked a room for TSGA 2013 before we left this year's show.
