I was lucky enough to acquire an Audiovox with a similar body to the one in the link below.
Mine is a seven string with mandolin tuners 4 on each side, which is what
I understand was used when it was built.
Has a great sound and is made of black walnut. (hope to post a picture soon).
It has a piece of plexiglass where the chrome metal cover over pickup,etc. should be.
The plexiglass is an exact template of the original cover.
Any one have any ideas/recommendations to someone who can make a new cover like the one that appears in the link.

| Interesting to hear it's a good sounder, Gary, not too many owners of these to get 1st hand thots from. Almost all 7 string AVs I've seen have 8 tuners but only 7 ferrules. Nice little piece of steel history you've gotten yourself, looking forward to the pix, and a soundclip if possible. |

It was because of this forum, I knew I had something rare.
The last post I could find was 2009, I believe?
Second clue was I searched the net and couldn't find any like it for sale...
I need to take the time to figure out how to post the picture...

| Are you trying to EXACTLY replicate the 'guard? The originals had some kind of crinkle finish. It's mostly worn off on mine. I have no idea how they did it. |

Mine has the same headstock, neck and white binding with single dot inlay, but with the body in the first link I posted.
I'll get a picture up this week.
History I could find says that it is one piece black walnut under the finish.
Looks like a chrome cover? |

| It is hard to post a picture of mine since it's almost entirely worn off. It's almost holographic at this point. However, you can see the pattern in the octagonal "frying pan" picture CrowBear posted above. I don't think it is a mechanical finish (like engine turning). I think it's more of a chemical thing. You should write Peter Blecha at the Seattle EMP Museum. He's the expert on these things and he probably knows the name for the finish. He might even know a place that can duplicate the effect. |

It's probably copper, as were some others I've seen without the chromed finish. |
