| I think it's Big Mommou, a Cajun song made popular on a Frenchie Burke album. It's probably much the same band that plays on the show. (Just educated guesses) |

| It is Big Mamou......but this version is not Frenchie Burke.This was broadcast during season 1....Bobby Flores and Miss Leslie Sloan on fiddles and Ricky Davis on steel. |

Danny,
Please don't take offense to my post, because I know song titles can and do become mis-construed. I had a thought of way back when, when, somebody kept sending a request for our singer to sing
"Blew By You" by Linda Ronstadt. It's just something that sticks in my mind, when, I or somebody else misquotes a title to a song. Please, no offense meant. |

Maybe I just didn't say it right. My high school english teacher didn't think too much of my command of the language either. |

Yep, that's Ricky Davis for sure; one of the unsung hero's of the pedal steel.
I've talked with Ricky a bunch of times and a nice guy to know. He should be playing at the Dallas show; "what's with that?"

| Most of us older guys remember the mind blowing steel break Robby Springfield did with Frenchy on that song. You have to hand it to Ricky Davis. Ricky did not try and copy what Robby did, but came up with something original and great. Two of the best Robby and Ricky. I got to thinking about Flores, and Frenchy, and this came to mind. It is difficult to beat a musician at his own game. By that I mean, Frenchy is a Cajun, and Flores is a Texan. You can't beat a Cajun playing Cajun music, and you can't beat a Texan playing Ray Price. Kind of like a New York banjo player and a banjo player from Kentucky. Both can be great, but there is a difference. I would really like to hear what Dickey Overby would of played on that song. Also wonder what happend to Frenchy's old guitar player Randy Corner? It was interesting to me the fellow thought the Tru Country Band was the same band as Frenchy's band. Maybe I'm too old and remember too much. Flores band based out of Blanco, Texas. Frency was in Houston. |

Keith - Randy Cornor is still living in Pasadena, TX. He had his own recording career as well...had the song "Sometimes I Talk in My Sleep" done at A.V. Middlestet's studio in Houston (SoundMasters), the same place Frenchie's stuff was done. A.V. sold the studio, but still has some of the original gear in his garage. Last I heard, he was thinking of building a new place.
Randy is battling some serious issues right now with his back. He can't play or hardly get out of bed, but he's got the doctors working on it.
As far as Bobby Flores is concerned, he does indeed live in Blanco, TX., but his band members are practically scattered across the state - Kevin Carter (fiddle) lives in east tx, RJ Smith (fiddle) lives in San Antonio, Harlan Kubos (bass) lives in Spring, TX near Houston, Dennis Kubos (drums) lives in Schulenberg, TX and I (steel) live south of Houston on the gulf coast.

Danny, what made you think it was pretty much the same band? Do both those recordings sound the same to you? To me they are as different as night and day. Both are wonderful in their own right.
Jody, if you are playing for Flores, I am jealous. I would give up building pedals to play steel in that band. If you don't mind sharing--what happened to Randy Rienheart? Last time I saw the band Randy was playing that black push pull with the Flores gang. |

Boy am I ever having a hard time communicating. I never said that the same musicians on the Frenchie Burke album were the ones playing the theme on TruCountry. I said the song was Big Mommou that was made popular on the Frenchie Burke album. I knew Robby Springfield and Randy Corner were on the Frenchie Burke album when they were very young. That is a fabulous album. The musicains playing Big Mammou on the Trucountry theme song are probably many of the same ones that play on the TruCountry show today, like Jake Hooker and Bobby Flores and the keyboard guy Brody, maybe the drummer and guitar player? Is that not true except that Miss Leslie and Ricky were on it? No big deal, it's just frustrating that what I was trying to say was taken so wrong. My fault. And no, the two versions of Big Mammou do not sound alike. They are very different. Lots more quick single note steel and guitar on the Frenchie version. And I saw Frenchie a couple of years ago, talk about a high energy level show, now he's got it goin.

Danny, no problem. None of the musicians on Tru Country were on the Frenchie Burke recording of Big Mommou. I get what you mean. Yes, probably the same guys who play on Tru country, are the band members behind Flores. Jody, tell this to Flores: "From his fiddle playing, I can tell Bobby is NOT a Cajun fiddle player like Frenchie Burke, Wade Landry. On the other hand, no one plays that Ray Price stuff like Bobby." It all goes back to when these guys were babies, and what they cut their teeth on.  |

| Jody, it is interesting the Flores band members live all over Texas. With the price of gas, how do you make much money playing a place like the Broken Spoke in Austin? Probably none of my business, but something I couldn't help thinking about. |

Keith - I am not sure of the details of Randy's departure. Bobby offered me the gig in February and I accepted, that's about all I can say on that.
The Broken Spoke in Austin seems close when you consider we are doing gigs in Abilene, Wichita Falls, San Angelo, etc. And yep, the gas prices have hurt us. We carpool when we can to the long gigs. The guys from the east side of the state will meet up in Schulenberg and go from there. We are still doing OK. I really hope gas prices will stabalize on the low side, haha.
