My Stewart pa1000 amp in combo with a peavey profex II shuts down ...then returns to on ,but continues to shut down when asking for volume. It started this winter after hauling to a gig in really cold weather.I thought that might have been the problem. HOWEVER>> It has just started again today in 70 degree temp. I've played it once a week or more from Dec. until today with no problem. After letting it set a while it may start again and run fine and it might not? Anyone got any Ideas?( other than a new amp) Thanks, Victor Erickson

VICTOR YOU MAY HAVE A SHORT .THEY WILL COME ON
BUT AS SOON AS YOU PUT VOLUME THRU IT ,IT GOES OFF
YOUR LUCKY YOU HAVENT BLOWED THE AMP .THE STEWARTS CANT STAND TO SEE A SHORT . CHECK ALL CORDS .IF ITS IN A RACK BOX MAKE SURE THE OUTPUT JACKS ARE NOT MOUNTED ON A METAL STRIP.IF ONE CORD GOES BAD THATS A DEAD SHORT
IT WILL FRY A STEWART.GOOD LUCK

Have you tried bypassing the Profex and going directly from the guitar into the amp to determine if the problem persists?

My gear woke up in a good mood today! I haven't had problems ....jet! I've checked or possible shorts and all is clean. If the problem occurs again , I'll separate it from the profex and see what happens. Thanks for your help, Victor

Victor...If your Profex has not had the batteryless mod performed by Ken Fox or a recent battery replacement that you are aware of, it may be wise to remove the cover from the unit and check for any leakage. This seems to be a common problem with these units.

WELL, MY STEWART PA 1000 HAS BECOME CRONIC! I CAN'T KEEP IT ON. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVISE ON A REPLACEMENT? I CAN HAVE IT REPAIRED BUT I WOULD NEVER TRUST IT. I LIKE MY RIG AND I WANT TO KEEP THE SOUND. CAN ANYONE GIVE SOME ADVISE ON WHAT WILL REPLACE MY STEWART PA 1000 AMP?

Will it stay on with the speakers unplugged? If so there could be a bad speaker cable or a speaker issue. If not, then it may have sufffered output transistor damage or power supply failure. If it has suffered output transistor damage then look carefully at the cords and speakers for a possiblr issue, or you may have the same problem occur with a new power amp. A transistor amp can tolerate no speaker load on it but can not tolerate a short. Just the opposite with a tube power amp. I have seen this and had to fix a Walker twice from blown power transistors due to a shorted cable the customer did not discover.

Ken, you were right on the money with your analysis of my problem. There was a bad cord connecting my profex and the right side of my amp. What do I owe you? you saved me some money . you are a gentleman!!!!
Thanks again, Victor Erickson Very Happy
