Congratulations, b0b, you aren't going to miss that string at all, I would bet. The combination of this C tuning and the modified Sacred steel tuning you proposed should be a winner. The main problem with this tuning is that it is so dense at the bottom end that strumming chords isn't possible, but the Sacred Steel/E9th tuning has that covered much better than a standard C6th or E9th. It is true that many of the tried and true C6th cliches are really hard to get with this tuning (those classic western swing raked chords). But the chordal possibilities for more modern chords are greatly enhanced.
