Hey guys. A friend is building me a 10 string lap steel and I need some help with a couple things. Want string spacing like old Gibson Console Grand. Also want long scale higher tension, at least I think I do. Gonna go with an E9/13 type tuning. Does the nut measure different than bridge? Already have Lawrence 705 and tuners. Any help would be appreciated. I am really into old western swing and early jazz, country and rockabilly if that helps any. Need some numbers to give my friend building the beast. Thanks. |

Bridge vs nut string spacing: if spacing is what you mean, there are two schools, I prefer complete parallel, but most steels narrow towards the nut and is the common standard. |

After looking up scale lenghts I am leaning toward 22 1/2 for this project. Thinking 10 strings may want to use heavier gauges on top, plus easier slants with lot of strings. May split the difference and go with 23. |
