I know this horse has been beat to death but bear with me. I know it's difficult or impossible to both raise and lower the same string on these beasts (ashtray keyhead/vinyl covering) but if a person could get by with only lowering 4 & 8, wouldn't that be the change to have on the KL and just have the 'C' pedal raise string 5. _________________ 2022 Brook Lyn, 2014 Martin 000-18, 2022 Ibanez GB-10, two homebrew Teles, Evans RE200 amp, understanding wife of 49 years. Yes, but I would recommend removing the C pedal, and set the knee-lever up to raise the E`s.
You have a Db on the second string that you can use instead of lowering the E-4th string...
To me, thats the more important change. |

it not imposable to rase & lower on that guitar . if you don’t mind doing a little work on it -- here is what you need to do .
1 you need a positive stop on the finger you want to lower . ( 4 & 8 string )
2 drill another hole in the finger below the two holes that are there .
3 you will need to add another lever & cross shaft with two bell-cranks
4 rod the new holes to the new cross shaft bell-cranks
5 tune strings 4&8 to Eb against the stop ( see item one )
6 tune up to E on 4&8 by the tuning nut on the end of the 4&8 string lower lever .
7 this is the sticky part -- when you tune you new lever with the E rase -- there needs to be enough slack -- or extra motion on the rod to allow the E lower to land on the stop ( item one - again )
Now you have the C pedal in tact and you have E rase and lower on 4&8
Simple huh !!
have fun |

Skip, The Maverick that Blake Hawkins has, has been changed so the 4th and 8th are lowered with the knee lever. But, it doesn't have the 4th string raise on the "C" pedal because of the 4th string lowering.
The one Blake has is an earlier model with a real wood body, but it doesn't have a roller nut. |

I could live with that, Jack. _________________ 2022 Brook Lyn, 2014 Martin 000-18, 2022 Ibanez GB-10, two homebrew Teles, Evans RE200 amp, understanding wife of 49 years. 'Steeless' at the moment |

Make him an offer, he may sell it to you. He lent it to us last year when Trudy decided she wanted to learn pedal steel. It had a bad pickup so he sent it out and had it rewound. We didn't keep it long as we bought a used GFI Expo S-10, but it served its purpose as Trudy decided she wanted to go forth with learning. |
