I'm not sure what the criteria is for the SGHOF,,,,great picker???,,,or contributions to Steel Guitar??,,,or even what category this post should go in,,,but for a long time I've just felt a need to "throw" this thought out there,,,maybe put it to a poll or ???

If the nominations ARE in fact based on contributions to our instrument,,,can anyone think of someone who has done MORE to promote steel guitar than our own Bobby Lee,,,,"Quasar b0b"???? I mean,,just look at what this Forum has done to bring steel guitarist, everyone from world class artist to "wannna be's" ,,and everyone in between (which would be most of us),,,and I think that in the beginning ,,and for a time,,,he did it all on "his own dime",,,at a time when there were much fewer people with the computer knowledge and skills to put this forum together!!!

Hands down he has my vote,,,,How much support do we have for this idea?????,,,and how do we go about getting him nominated???

I believe that b0b did get a special award at St Louis (maybe ten years ago?) which I thought was an appropriate way of recognising his importance in the world of steel guitar.

Hi Everyone,

Well said Sonny. I am in agreement with Sonny on Bobby Lee being inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.

If this offends anybody I am sorry, but nobody, no great steel player or any number of players have contributed any more to the Steel Guitar than Bobby Lee. It's Worldwide and look at our numbers and the awesome connections now because of this Steel Forum!

Thanks Bobby Lee!!!

It is entirely possible that Bobby has already been nominated. The list of nominees is not publically available.

b0b gets my vote along with Sonny Curtis . Sonny is well know in the steel guitar community as well . Sonny played for George Jones and Tammy for many years as well as having two steel guitar shops in Columbus Ohio for many years but now retired . If i were on the committee i would take a serious look at these two fellows . G.P.

Another that I suggest is Joe Wright. He would be on the top of the list as far as I'm concerned. Not that others shouln't be considered. He has played for major performers, has all kind of instructional videos and tabbed material, always ready to assist other pickers, has the utmost respect for our steel guitar heroes that came before him and not to mention that wherever he is is playing he is one of the favorites that the crowds wait to see and hear him perform. Least of all theres no one to compare to Theolfulas. Thanks for letting me give my opinion. Herman Wainwright luvtosteel@yahoo.com

You guys have my vote for b0b!

Not to offend anyone,,,but the focus of this thread seems to be evolving,,(as so often happens on the forum!). The focus of the thread is not who each of our favorite "steel guitar player" is,,,,the issue of "who" has contributed to the interest, promotion and awareness of steel guitar,,,,,and I'm contending that providing a means of bringing thousands of steelers (from the "top of the pile to the bottom of the pile"), together,,giving new or not-so-talented steel players access to the knowledge and experience of world class players,,,,as b0b has done,,,,certainly seems to qualify him for a permanent place of recognition in the steel guitar community,,,,and more than just an "honorable mention" 10 years ago,,,,,(look how this "community has grown in the past 10 years,,,again,,,,thanks to b0b)!!!!!,,,and I can't believe,,,considering all the people who participate and benefit from this forum,,,,,there are not more people jumping in and supporting this idea,,,,,????? Well you folks are well meaning but you're whistling in the wind if you believe 'petitions' or 'votes', other than the Board of the SGHOF will get b0b into this club. The only way b0b can be nominated to this austere position is through the SGHOF only. Someone has to submit a nomination letter, and it better be good and thorough, to the hall board and I think it's headed up by Scotty. You can check it aLL out by going to Scotty's website and the hall is listed there. Good luck to you folks because the guy certainly deserves consideration.

Well, I suppose b0b has 'brought us all together' but I'm not sure that there's much peace and harmony as a result - mostly we all just argue with each other...

Confused

I agree that, Bobby Lee should be nominated for the SGHOF. He has done great work in the advancemnent of steel playing and I applaud him for it. But, I'd like to see Bob Maickel, the president of the Pedal Steel Guitar Assoc. be nominated, also. Bob Maickel is one of the founders and still president, since 1973 folks. The PSGA is in it's "39th" year and still going strong nationally and internationally. It espoused tons of steel info prior to the internet and the newsletter, published 10 times a year, is still being mailed out, ontime, to all of its' members. This man has worked countless and I do mean countless hours of tasks, without any pay, for the benefit of steel guitar for everyone to enjoy. He's as dedicated as anyone I know. And yes, I'm a little biased because I've known him for over 30 yrs and I'm the VP of the club, but, without him there would have been no PSGA. He has been the cornerstone of steel guitar info for 39 yrs and I think he belongs in the SGHOF. My opinion of course, yours may vary.

As I recall, b0b has already spoken out on this matter, and he said that he would decline any nomination/induction into the S.G.H.O.F..

I believe he used the phrase "It ain't gonna happen, folks". Neutral

To me, that kind of humility says a lot more than a plaque in some basement. Very Happy

I also believe that Bob deserves some kind of lifetime achievement award. Maybe Knighthood? Winking I don't think the SGHOF is really out of the question either. What he has done for the steel guitar world has been one of the largest contributions to keeping our instrument alive and well heading into the future!

I myself would also love to see my friend Buddy Merrill be inducted! He was the first steel player that I (and millions of others) ever saw back in the 50's. For my generation, he was on the tube way before YouTube!
