Are there any week or weekend long beginner steel western swing instruction camps?
If so, any experiences?
Thanks- |

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but There have been steel players at Swing Week at the Augusta Heritage Festival in Elkins, W Va: http://augustaheritagecenter.org/swing/
I went in 1983, and took a week of jazz mandolin lessons from Jethro Burns. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life! _________________ "it's not in bad taste, if it's funny." - john waters |

I've been to Augusta for harmonica and swing vocals. Great time! But no instruction in steel guitar. |

You might contact Maurice Anderson here on the Forum. He conducts "Camps" in his home, on demand. If you can find a few like minded "students" I would bet that he could fix you up there in Dallas. You won't find a better instructor or a nicer guy. |

John Ely from northern Minnesota, who used to play for Asleep at the Wheel, teaches non-pedal lessons over Skype. It's not a camp, but is a very good learning resource, and he's a killer swing player.
Skype lessons are easy to do; John's a really good teacher who has helped my playing a lot.
His website is:

Just FYI and to avoid confusion in this post, there are two of us on the forum named John Ely, both of us in Minnesota. He's the one you want to contact.
Good luck.

This cracked me up. Wondering why John Ely is talking about himself in 3rd person. Glad you left the punchline 'til the end. |
