I used to play a 6 string lap tuned to open E. Ist to 6th E-B-G#-E-B-E. I have been on 10 string E9th for 7 yrs. bought a Gretsch 5 string couldn't get sound I wanted on old tuning so changed to what I called a modified E9th. 1st to 6th G#-E-B-G#-E-B I can't get anything on C7th 0r G like a dobro any suggestions would be appreciated. Wes

I'm unclear about your question, Wes. Are you looking to play certain things using the modified open E tuning you're currently using? Are you looking for a particular sound that you got from your pedal steel that you're not getting from your Gretsch?
Please explain further so we can help you.

I am playing in cowboy church band and thought the lap had a real nice touch to some songs. I also was wanting to get into some Hawaiian music I already do Harbor Lights on both. Also on some up beat tunes I like the wider string spacing.

Is there a reason why you're not using the open E tuning you used to use? That should do nicely for that sort of music, plus you can use a set of regular gauge electric guitar strings (.013 to .056) without problems.

1. E
2. B
3. G#
4. E
5. B
6. E
