Herb Steiner is back in the saddle (after breaking his foot in an auto accident in Feb.) and will be kicking off the Austin Steel Guitar Co-op jam at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 8 with a NON-PEDAL set, with Rob Harding on guitar, Charlie Irwin on bass, and Karen Biller on drums. The jam is from 2-5 p.m. at the 290 West Bar & Grill, Austin, TX. Come say "welcome back" to Herb.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, guys and gals. Here's the update.

I can now put weight on my mid-foot and walk on my whole foot, though I must still wear the surgical boot while doing so. I can now drive, though I should wear the smaller post-op shoe while driving, then change to the surgical boot when leaving the car.

I can operate the volume pedal with the post-op shoe, no problem, so I can play pedal steel gigs as well as non-pedal. And in fact, I'll be back with Tony Harrison's band next week on Thursday. I do still need help in lifting my gear until I feeel more confident/comfortable in doing so.

I'm looking forward to the Sunday Co-op meeting. And I think I'll throw caution to the winds and show up for some non-pedal playing with Alvin Crow at Ginny's Little Longhorn tomorrow night.

It's been a long two months, and I'm not out of the woods yet. But I see the edge of the forest approaching.

Herbie, glad your getting back in the swing of things. One of these Sundays I'm going to load up and come down to Austin and hang with Red, Dallas and the rest of the Haybale gang.
