Today, I decided to try Outlook Express solely to learn the program (a lot of job listings mention Outlook as a program they want you to have experience in). When I set it up, it automatically imported all the emails in my Yahoo inbox and then deleted them from the Yahoo inbox. Gone, Kaputt!!. Not in the trash folder. They are still in the Outlook Express inbox, but I don't plan on using it for my email client.
Is there any way to get back my emails? There were some important emails there. Of course I can't find a help link for ATT/Yahoo. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . No luck there Cal. Everything you send ends up in an out box that you have to send by pressing a button.
I tried to forward 3 of the messages and 1 reply to an email from my girlfriend. After about 10 minutes of it "sending", I went to run some errands. A hour later it is still "sending". I can't believe Microshit got as big as they are with the crappy products they make. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Maybe your account isn't configured properly. Check the outgoing mail server. Your account will be either IMAP or POP, and the settings are different. And if you somehow got Outlook connected to Yahoo it might be even more different. _________________ C#

Outlook Express has been deprecated for several years now. Nobody uses it in a business environment. I believe you mistook it for Microsoft Outlook. They are horses of a different color! Outlook is not free and never shipped with any version of Windows. It is part of Microsoft Office Professional.
Outlook Express was replaced by Windows Live Mail around 2009.
You must have the wrong SMTP settings for Outlook Express. Normally, it sends outgoing messages in a second or two. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Richard;
If possible, would you open your email account properties in Outlook Express and post the POP3 and SMTP (or IMAP) settings here? Remove your account prefix (leave the suffix) and password. I also need to see the port settings for POP3 and SMTP.
Example:
Servers Tab
My incoming mail server is a: ___ server
Incoming mail (POP3):___________
Outgoing mail (SMTP):___________
Incoming mail server
Email Username: REMOVED@email-provider.com
Password: REMOVED
Remember password (checked)
Log on using? (usually top option)
Outgoing Mail Server
My server requires authentication (checked)
(Settings > Typically, Use same settings as my incoming mail server)
Advanced Tab
Server Port Numbers
Outgoing mail (SMTP): # (Secure connection?)
Incoming mail (POP3): # (Secure connection?)
Leave a copy of messages on server??? Here's where you may have caused your messages to be removed from the email server!
One thing you can check for yourself is the outgoing port. The default is port 25. But, all ISPs now block port 25 to block first-generation simple spambots. Contact your email provider to learn the correct ports, or search their FAQs.
Note: If you use free Yahoo email, you cannot use a POP3 desktop client to send mail. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

If you are using Yahoo free email and thus cannot send email from Outlook Express, setup a new free Gmail account, which does allow POP3 and SMTP access. Once the account has been configured, check for new messages (POP before SMTP), then forward your previously downloaded emails to your Yahoo account name, using Gmail's server as the sending account option. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Thanks Wiz. I was successful last night at forwarding one of the emails back to me in my Yahoo mailbox. I don't remember what I had changed, but I think it was to turn off the option to send and receive messages at start up.
I don't know if I use Yahoo free email. I have a free email account with them that I got years ago (my current email). My email "client" is actually ATT/Yahoo as I got this when I had ATT Internet service.
I definitely learned my lesson.
Cal... After the first round of tears dried, and I picked all the broken dishes off the floor, I had to laugh too.
I think I can fix this today, well, at least get my emails back into Yahoo. Then Out-of-Luck Express is history. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Wiz is right, forget OE. You don't want to work anywhere where they use that, anyway. I have ATT, too, unfortunately (s-l-o-w). Here's a screenshot of my mail servers, if that's any help.

Is Windows Live Mail any friendlier? What about Thunderbird?
I don't know why I am asking, the ATT/Yahoo has always worked fine for me. Maybe just curious to see if there is something better. Although, that is not why I tried OE.
Anyway, I was finally able to forward my emails back to me in my Yahoo inbox. Why it wouldn't work yesterday, I don't know. But of course, there were problems. I had OE set to check for new messages every couple of minutes. After forwarding about 20 emails, the program checked and brought all my forwarded emails back.
Well, it looks as though I am fixed, but would like to hear more on Live Mail and Thunderbird (it was recommended to me). _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Windows Live Mail is very similar in appearance to Outlook Express and uses the same .eml file extension. It will import messages, folders and accounts directly from OE, although you will have to re-type and save your passwords once.
WLM has a built-in junk filter system and some advanced features not present in OE. One thing it lacks, unfortunately, is an HTML editor, which OE had. Thus, WLM cannot be used to compose HTML newsletters, or to add attributes to links.
Aside from that, I like it just fine. It doesn't get bogged down from too many saved messages, like OE used to do. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
