Who do you think should be in the Texas Music Hall of Fame®?
Fans weigh in on their favorite Texas music heavyweights

(Austin, Texas) -- The first-ever Texas Music Hall of Fame® is in place and ready to roll. A Nominating Committee of 12 men and women have the important job of selecting the first ever inductees. Now fans can have their say.

“We would love to hear what fans on this. We welcome their thoughts and ideas for the first inductees,” said Ed Fair, Executive Director of the Texas Music Hall of Fame. “We initially will have two categories of inductees – Featured/Performing Artists category and Non-Performer Category”.

The Texas Music Hall of Fame® website www.TexasMusicHOF.com is a virtual Hall of Fame, until an actual brick and mortar building is built.
Texas music lovers can check out the site, and sign up to become a Fan.
Then, you can participate in the Fan Forum by posting your thoughts about who should be the first inductees. Fans can also scroll down to read the latest comments.

“It’s a great way for everyone all over the world who loves Texas music to become involved in this exciting process,” explains Fair. “We hope to announce the first class of inductees later this year.”

The selection process is similar to the processes used by the Country Music Hal of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fair says, “With the enormous amount of talent from Texas, we will never run short of outstanding candidates.”

There are several exciting projects in the planning stages including a Texas Music Hall of Fame® concert series, educational programs and conferences, and a student essay competition.

“W are also planning or own ‘Talent N Texas’ involving a regional performance competition with celebrity judges,” adds Fair.

About the Texas Music Hall of Fame
The Texas Music Hall of Fame® recognizes and honors performers, producers, songwriters and other music business professionals who have made a significant contribution to Texas music. Our goal is to provide an array of projects and activities, which honor the legends of Texas music as well as shine a spotlight on emerging new talent throughout the state.

Scott Joplin, T-Bone Walker, Lightning Hopkins, and even though he was born in Louisiana, I would think Leadbelly would have to be in it, among a couple of others.

Ry Cooder?!? The boy was born in Santa Monica CA!

Mike and Storm, thanks mucho. I wasn't born in TX but got here as fast as I could. I've been here 40 years and was made an Honorary Texas Citizen by Gov. Dolph Briscoe back in 1973.

Michael Martin Murphey is proud that he brought me here, and he's a native TXan fer sure. But as I pointed out to him on our last tour, I've lived in TX far longer than he has. Which kinda irked him, just a li'l bit. Wink

HOF's chosen by committee are certainly valid ways of doing things. But when a player is voted into the Texas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, it's by a vote of the members themselves. So when Maurice Anderson, Ralph Mooney, Jeff Newman, Tom Morrell, Bert Rivera, Herb Remington, Albert Talley, and my other colleagues in the TXSGHOF said that "yes, you're one of us," it's an honor that holds a special place in the player's heart.

At least it does mine. Thanks, fellers. Smile
