Acoustic/electric lap steel with mandolin size Beard "dobro" style resonator (spider bridge and cone) Fishman dobro pickup and Lace sensor gold single coil pickup going out through stereo jack. $1150 (new price was $1,500) with HSC. perfect condition. Nice range of traditional Dobro sounds, and soaked single coil slide sounds from one compact lap steel. with cable (stereo 1/4" to two mono 1/4 jacks for separate tweaking in a two channel mixer or amp)b with original hard shell case.

Mark, how loud is a Road-O-Phonic played acoustically with no amp compared with a full-size spider reso? Or compared with a flattop six string? Just curious. Thanks. _________________ "For every expert, there is an equal and opposite expert." -- Arthur C. Clarke |

Surprisingly, nearly as loud, although a little different tonally. The funny thing about resonators is they are actually significantly louder from the back side of the cone, and it would be even louder if the hole went all the way through as it does on some late Supro Valco steels. |

Howard, Amazingly fun music there. Looks like Mike Brenner might have replaced the pickup... |

hey folks---i did replace the Lace pickup with a DiMarzio humbucker. The feedback becomes much more controllable (with a volume pedal). Acoustic, it's a little nasal/honky but listenable. On the good side, it's so easy to pull that thing out anywhere and learn a tune quickly, show someone a part. In studios, I'll bring it into control rooms to sketch out some ideas for people and then plug it in to cut the tracks.
here's me playing roadie with John Train, mostly backup stuff but cool feedback moment at 2:11. you can get these things to sing.

Mark, I have a buyer for my MSA D-8 posted on the Forum. If the deal goes through I would like to take the Beard. I should know something tomorrow.

Unfortunately even though I sold the MSA I am not able to purchase the guitar as wife has absconded with the funds. Claims it is her turn. She is probably right. |
