Hi, I am fairly new to the lap steel world, recently bought a Peavey NV112 for my Gretsch lap steel.
I am curious if there are any better amp settings for C6 than the one in the manual which I don't find that "steely"?
Thanks for any suggestions

First thing, John.... use your ears... they can't be wrong and you will find YOUR personal setup!
try this: Presens and high on zero, mid -8, Frequence around 800hz, lows around +6 to +8
but you have to set it how your ears gonna like it! As easy as that... I pet, it's easier to set the amp up then to play the C6th tuning.... ![Winking](images/smiles/icon_winking.gif) |

Thanks. The thing is, I have never heard anyone play a lap steel live, only on youtube, and would love some professional input. I don't know if my cheap Gretsch has a slightly dull tone, but I would love to reproduce as much as possible a really clean "sacred steel" sound. I have an overdrive and a compressor too, but don't really know how to use them with my amp.

John, regarding C6 lap steel played through a Nashville 112, you might want to check out the following two of my videos, lap steels played through a 112. I also use a volume pedal and a Boss delay in these videos.

This one is E13 tuning, played through a 112:

I've had very good luck with the 112 for lap steel. Here are the basic settings I use:
Pre-Gain: 4
Low: +3 to +6
Mid: -6
Shift: 800
High: 0 to +6
Presence: 0 to +3
Master Reverb: 4
Master Gain: 6 to 7
The settings will vary somewhat depending on the guitar, the pickup, the pick "attack" of the player, whether or not a volume pedal is used, the style of music, etc. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Doug, the tone on that lap steel into the 112 is beautiful.I had forgotten how good the lap steel sounds. Your playing is great too. Thanks for the demo. Buck Grantham ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Music to light up your life |
