Hey Forumites,

I have an opportunity to buy a late 90's Fender Twin Amp for cheap but before I jump the gun, was wondering if any of you guys have had experience with this amp and if you think it's a good amp.

From the descriptions, it looks like a 100w twin reverb with a bunch of bells and whistles. It's the version with the 2 inputs.

I played through an amp like that on a fly date a couple of weeks ago, and it sounded great with my Mullen. I didn't have any trouble dialing in a tone I was happy with.

That is the same amp, more or less, with different cosmetics, as the red knob variant known as the "Evil Twin." Really heavy. Pretty loud. If you search the archives for Evil Twin you should find some reviews, which were not overwhelmingly favorable.

I've used one with a steel. A GE-7 graphic Eq pedal really made it shine. I only used the regular channel without the overdrive. It has a mid and presence control but the eq made it sound less honky.Great to use as a single amp if you double on six string. Very heavy at 77 pounds! It can be loud over 3. I'm back to my 112, though.

On my recent Euro tour I had one of those for about 1 1/2 weeks. Liked it fine. As stated above, very heavy.

The 'Twin Amp' is the 'Evil Twin'. It has the classic 1960s blackface look, but once you hit that gain channel it just sears with distortion.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I've heard some time ago that "The Twin" was indeed the "Evil Twin" but I wasn't sure if the equalization section was the same as that horrendously ugly amp from the 80's.

My gut is telling me just to pass this one up and save some more for a silverface Twin Reverb or Vibrosonic.

Thanks again for the info
